Virtual Tour (Entangled Publishing): Author Interview with Melissa Bourbon Ramirez

Monday, July 30, 2012

Happy Monday Sexxy People!

I'm so happy to welcome Melissa Bourbon Ramirez to Salacious Reads today. She is going to talk about her new Book Sacrifice of Passion...

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to Salacious Reads, please tell us a little about yourself?

Thank you for having me here today! I’m a writer, of course, a mother, a wife, and the marketing director for Entangled Publishing. Life is very busy! I have five kids, ages 9-19, one of which is a girl (the 12 year old). My oldest is heading into his second year of college.

Can you give us some background on the story Sacrifice of Passion?

I love this story! Sacrifice of Passion is the first book in the Deadly Legends Trilogy. It takes place in the small town of San Julio, Texas, a place that is supposedly cursed. Killings and the legend of chupacabra are at the center of the story.

My husband is Latino. The legend of la Llorona was my first foray into Mexican legends. I find them all fascinating! Chupacabra is urban legend, and the little creatures are creepy—perfect for a romantic suspense novel! The book has been getting rave reviews, which is so exciting. There’s nothing better than knowing that your story resonates with readers.

Deadly Legends is a wonderful name for a series…how did you come across this idea?

Thank you! Each of the books will center ona legend, and being romantic suspense, they’ll all have the suspense/death elements. We combined the two elements and voila!

How many more stories can we expect to see in this series and what mythical creature will be in the next book?

The second book, Curse of Passion, will be out early in 2013. It takes the legend of la Llorona (think Medea) to new heights. I love the story. It features Ray Vargas, Vic’s brother, in the starring role 

The third book in the series will be out in late 2013 or early 2014.

What would like for readers to take with them after they've finished reading Sacrifice of Passion?

The story is about second chances, hope, and moving forward. And passion, of course! I’d like readers to feel the emotional range of all those elements.

Thank you for stopping through Melissa.

Thank you!

About Sacrifice of Passion

Texas rancher, Vic Vargas, finds himself facing more than his stubbornly silent son when the chupacabra, a supposedly mythical blood‐sucking beast, starts killing his livestock—and stalking Delaney West, the town’s newly returned veterinary assistant, the sensual woman who ran from the altar and broke his heart twelve years earlier.

Reluctantly, he seeks her help to get to the bottom of the disturbing animal mutilations, only to have her break through to his sullen son...and rekindle the love he’d thought was lost forever. But her refusal to share a terrible secret sends her running straight into the lair of the chupacabra, plunging her back into her worst nightmare, and forcing them both to confront the wrongs of the past—in order to stay alive for the future they desperately want.

Storie Bell has a little secret—she’s a witch. But magic hasn’t exactly kept her life from being a complete mess—her love life is non-existent and the town thinks she’s a total nutter. Plus there’s her neighbor Reid Malone who runs hot one minute and cold the next.

Reid Malone can’t wait to escape Bloomington, Texas. Unfortunately, he’s stuck where he is unless he helps his father hide a very illegal secret. The only key to Reid’s freedom lies with the eccentric Storie…and he’ll do whatever it takes to get the information he needs from her.

But Reid’s holding something back. Something big. And if he’s not careful, he’ll find out exactly what happens when you try to deceive a witch…

Going undercover is second nature for Private Investigator Lola Cruz, but she’s out of her league when the case of a murdered Royals Courtside Dancer leads her to a local nudist resort. Parading around the sidelines of Sacramento’s professional basketball scene in a barely-there cheerleading outfit is one thing—but parading around in nothing but smile? If she has any chance of hiding this from her traditional family and on-again/off-again boyfriend Jack, she’s going to have a lot more than her duct tape bra and killer dance moves to keep under wraps….

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #9

Friday, July 27, 2012

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend, hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines. This is a Friday blog hop with the objective to find and visit other book blogs that share the same interest as you, namely books geared towards the 18 & over crowd, and make some new friends!

This Weeks Question:
Question of the Week: Show us the goods! Share your bookshelves with everyone. Strictly eBooks? That's okay, take a pic of your reader! Give a tour of your shelves and have fun with it.
*Click on pictures to see full size*

O.o *runs to clean bookshelf* Not that there's much to clean... A few months ago I got a new bookshelf, before I got that one I had a standard 5 shelf bookshelf. It was a lot smaller than my new one & it made it seem like I had a lot of books.. well, as you can see, having this new bookshelf, I don't really have much >.<

Regardless of my lack of a book collection, I absolutely love my bookshelf. I got this one from my grandpas house before he moved out (can you believe he was just gonna toss this beauty?) So, yeah.. I took it before it became a hearty meal for the dump-truck.  I can rearrange the shelves anyway I want. As you can see, since I don't have much, I've added some stuff to the shelves just for decor.

The middle column is my sister's books and the left and right column's are mine.

Mind my pillow pet there at the bottom. Her name is Pink Zebra hehe My bed is pretty much just a mattress lol. One of the greatest things I love about my bookshelf, is that there's a little lamp light attached to the top and with just a flip of a switch it comes on. INSTANT NIGHT LIGHT! oh yeah *flippin' switches like a boss*

Below, is a picture of the very bottom of my shelf. It's pretty much just school notebooks and textbooks. I don't need these text books anymore, they're just a filler for my near non-existent bookshelf xD

Let's just say... my Kindle for PC has a lot more books than my bookshelf. I've restricted myself from eBooks.. I get too click happy and then this happens ^_^ See? I haven't even begun to make a dent in that list of books -____-

To participate in the meme all you need to do is:

1. Be a follower of Under the Covers.
2. Create a post in your blog taking the meme image (code above) and copy instructions.
3. Answer the question we propose! This can be done in any way you like, post a video, write a post etc.

Non-bloggers: We want to hear from you as well!!! Let us know your answer in the comments!

We hope you join us and let us know your Dirty Little Secrets!

This week's question:
"If you could replace the heroine in a scene with yourself, which scene would you pick and why?"

I would choose Elena from Nalini Singhs Guild Hunter series. It was a scene in Archangels Kiss where Rapheal & Elena did the "Angel Dance" in the air (they really had sex flying..). It was such a sexually charged scene...hmm...hmm...hmm...lucky Elena! I wanted to be her so damn bad!

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
♥Grab your current read
♥Open to a random page
♥Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

 (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
 Here's What I'm Currently Reading:
Dirty Secrets by Lonaire Drummond
The Darkest Night (Book #1 in the Lords of the Underworld series) by Gena Showalter
Shadow Rising (Book #3 in the Dark Dynasties series) by Kendra Leigh Castle

Dirty Secrets: She bit his ear, but not hard enough to draw blood. In response, Ambrogio dropped a kiss onto her shoulder. Only intending to teach him a lesson, she undulated against his crotch, treating him to several devilish rolls of her hips when her clit connected with his bulge, the resulting sensation transformed a slow grind into a full on bucking ride. Adele became undone.
Page 102

The Darkest Night:  Paris swiped the remote from him and switched the fleshfest back on. Thankfully, he punched the mute button. "Not pay-per-view, bro," he said without a hint of remorese. "This one's from my own personal collection. Oil Wrestlers Gone Wild.
Page 67

Shadow Rising: She ran her nails lightly down his chest, making him shutter; then, before she could begin to think better of it, she began to fumble with his belt buckle. She was so tired of thinking; it was so much better just to feel.

Random Ramblings: Currently Reading #2

Monday, July 23, 2012

Random Ramblings: Currently Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Neyra @ Darkest Addictions Book Reviews every Monday. It's where you talk about the book(s) you are currently reading for the week and whether or not you're enjoying it, how you heard of it, and who recommended it to you.
I am currently reading Dirty Secrets by Lonaire Drummond and The Darkest Night (Book #1 in the Lords of the Underworld series) by Gena Showalter

The Darkest Night: I am currently 21% into The Darkest Night & I'm already in love with this book and it's characters. This is the first book in the Lords of the Underworld series (recommended to me by Ning & Neyra... who told me to hurry up and read it!... patience, ladies, is a VIRTUE!! lol)  So, anyway, back to the book at hand. So far, so damned GOOD! hehe. I already love all the Lords. Maddox is growing on me still but I do love Ashlyn's character. She's a fighter for sure. While I was reading I kept going back to page 15 to see which Lord held which Demon inside himself. I think I've got it down...

Maddox = Violence
Lucien = Pain
Aeron = OMG... Wait, Wrath??
Torin = Disease
Paris = Promiscuity
Reyes = Death

                                               Okay.. I might have cheated a little bit ;)

Dirty Secrets: I am currently 50% through this book. Dirty Secrets is a contemporary romance that I received for review from Jannelle Drummond. So far, I like it. It's not making me scream up and down with joy shouting to the world "READ THIS BOOK! READ IT NOW!!" but, it's kept my interest. I'm not too big a fan of Adele's character. She's too... I can't even pick a word for it xD But, her best friend Robynne's character is fun and interesting. One thing I gotta say is that I do NOT speak french! aside from moi and voila I am a complete doorknob when it comes to anything other than that. I actually pulled up Google Translate to help me better understand what was said between the characters. *sigh*
 "Can we get out of this pool? My vagina broke the fall."
The sex... well, it's hawt. I mean if you have sex on a swing over a pool and end up breaking said swing... well... damn.. xD I chuckled at this... The banter between the characters is funny and cute.
 “Do you always have to have the last word.” “Not when I hear words like faster, don’t stop or more. Those words require action,” he said.

What are you currently reading? Do you like it?

Dracula's Secret by Linda Mercury

Published: July 19, 2011
Format: eBook
** Acquired through NetGalley
Series: Blood Wings #1
Available: Barnes & Noble / Amazon

Blurb (Goodreads)

In a world where humans and paranormal creatures share an uneasy coexistence, Valerie Tate has a secret. Not only is she one of the last surviving vampires, she is also the Dracula of legend, having lived her life in disguise and eventually reverting to her natural, female form after going into exile during World War II.

On the eve of a historic paranormal summit in Portland, Valerie has come to the city with one sole goal: to kill her brother, vampire Radu Tepes. Radu is about to announce his candidacy for the office of President, but he has secret, sinister motives for his desire to become the first vampire president of the United States.

At the same time former Army chaplain Lance Soliel has opened the doors of his struggling homeless shelter to both humans and paranormals, a controversial move that attracts the scrutiny of the media and the ire of Radu. Targeted for death, Lance is rescued by Valerie. Despite their smoldering attraction Valerie does not want to be distracted from her goal, but when she realizes Lance can lead her to Radu she becomes his bodyguard. But not all is as it seems, for Lance is no ordinary human. He is actually a Fallen Angel with paranormal abilities of his own, abilities that he will have to rediscover in time to save both his life and Valerie's.

What I Think

First I like to say that I liked the base of this book, which Dracula..Vlad the Impaler is actually born a girl, but raised as a man because her parents wanted a boy & not a girl.

Valerie/Vlad has killed all of the vampires she sired and now she only has on more to kill and that is her brother (which I took a instant dislike to..seriously you want to kill someone because they stole your spotlight?). Anyway on the night she plans her hit, she comes across Father Lance who she feels an instant attraction to.

Now..what could have been great story now seems kinda of okay. There isA LOT within these pages and I think thats where I loss interest. Too much information provided in some areas and then not enough explanation in other areas. Hell I know what Valerie/Vlad is, but what the heck is Lance? it's taken too long to find it out and I just don't like that in any book. It's very frustrating to me.

I'm not going rate this book because I don't think it would be fair since I didn't finish it. Maybe I'll pick it back up later when I'm in the vamp mood again. I was kinda of disappointed though..I mean a new and refreshing take on the vampire world is something I'm always excited to read about.

Random Rants #7:

Random Rants is a weekly post I am starting that I will post on Sundays. I will be ranting about things I loved or didn't love from the past week...these rants do not pertain to books.
When I first heard about the shooting, I was completely shocked. I couldn't believe it happened. Later that night when I got on the computer, I looked up the story and was reading it. Can you believe it? A THEATER! My God. I am completely saddened by this. I was watching a few of the videos on yahoo and I couldn't help but cry. All these people wanted to do was watch a movie! I am now very hesitant to go to a theater. I know, this shouldn't scare us into not living our lives, but you can't help but be scared of what's out there. I think we should still live our lives and live it as best we can because we honestly don't know when we'll take our last breath. I won't go much into this one, I just wanted to share my thoughts with you guys.

If you're follower and have noticed I haven't been posting very much, then I am very grateful you noticed my absence! lol. But seriously, I have hardly been posting this week. I only posted two posts and one of them was just a "And The Winners Are..." post. I still got on blogger and commented on a few blogs and worked on a few designs but I couldn't write my posts. And I tried. I started, but I couldn't think and just exited everything. This week has been a rough one for me, in which I just wanted to stay in bed all day and stuff my face with Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Hershey's chocolate, chocolate cake and watch extremely happy movies with happy endings to make me HAPPY! But, because I have been eating very healthy for the past month and because I have willpower that will outlast hell frozen over, I just moped and moped and moped. Oh, yeah. I moped some more. But, I'm pulling myself out of my pity party & putting on my big girl panties. I've got an ever growing pile of books that need to be reviewed and I feel like I've neglected the blogs that I visit on a daily basis. SORRY!! You'll see more of me and my "♥" signature very soon :)

Well, that's it for this week. Did y'all do anything awesome? More awesome than throwing a fabulous pity party like moi?

Salaciously Sexxy Sunday Wrap Up

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Happy Sunday!

Well another week has come and gone and with that there will be some changes here at Salacious Reads. This comes with all the craziness going on the book blogging world as far as reviews (either negative, good, or if a book gets reviwed at all) and also about images found via the web (Google, Pintrest, etc) can be used in ones blog post.

So I made some changes to my Review Policy and I'll be doing some more adjustments to it in the coming week. I'll also be changing the design as well..it will be a little more Salacious & Sexxy, lol. I've already have designs in mind that I want to use & I also chose the designer I want to use..I just need the funds 0~0. Also you more than likely won't see anymore sexy man pics..I'm not sure. There are some sites that offer free stock images or well..I will just have to purchase them, we shall see.

So with all of that above, let's get to this post..

Take a look at what happended this past week at Salacious Reads via video
