The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
I got to page 59 in this book and had to stop. I’m sure that there is a story and more than likely a good one, but I do not like the people in these pages. If this is what College life is like now…then WOW.
Travis…Travis…Travis. Goodness, what a mess of a person. And he's not completely at fault, not when you have girls practically throwing their panties at you and dudes being scarred of you because you whoop ass in a illegal fighting thingy. His cousin Shep is an enabler and that is all I’m saying on him.
Abby seems like the only one with sense. I like how she just didn’t fall for his BS, but I can see she is going to start enabling him in a way too. Her friend America…I didn’t like her at all.
As I said, I’m sure Ms. McGuire wrote a engaging story, by all of the 4-5 star reviews this book is gathering. But I truly don’t have patience for this kind of story or the characters in it. I just didn’t like them at all…well maybe Abby a little bit.
I’m a moody reader and this book was sucking my soul dry within the first couple of chapters. Will this stop me from reading another book by this author? probably not. But this book right here is not for me, so I’m moving on. These characters are Beautiful and they are definitely Disasters.
On a side note, I just want to add that when books like this are written, you really have to be careful..especially if its going to be categorized as young adult. Young people are very impressionable and this book just sends the wrong type of message to anyone, but especially to someone under 19.
I don’t rate DNF’s, so Beautiful Disaster will not be rated here.
Beautiful Disaster was also part of my NetGalley Challenge going on over at Goldilox & The Three Weres.
