It’s Jax Cassidy’s first mission for L.O.S.T.—one that will give the former cop who went rogue a chance to prove herself. Her assignment: gain the trust of assassin Marcus Cross . . . eliminate him . . . then take down Marcus’s mentor, Joseph Lazarus, a man with a bold eye on the White House. But the woman who’s known by her team for being a femme fatale succumbs to passion, only to discover Cross’s deadly secret. He’s a vampire, and Joseph Lazarus is his creator.

Left for dead by his platoon in the violent hills of Afghanistan, Special Ops sniper Marcus Cross was given a second chance at life. His newly heightened skills make him the perfect killing machine, and as Lazarus’s right-hand man, he’s quickly rising to the top of his dark empire, purging enemies with speed and precision. Only when dangerous beauty Jax Cassidy is sent to bring him in does he begin to question Lazarus’s motives and his own actions. But when Jax’s life is threatened by the one thing that can destroy them both, Marcus must make a bitter choice—her death or his.

Enemy Lover is a good read...BUT it starts off ridiculously slow. Now I understand that the author wants you to get to know the characters in her story and that's fine, but please do not for the love of good gravy spend half of the book doing just that. I wanted to put this sucker down, but I felt there would be more to this story and I didn't want to miss out on it. Although truthfully, I did skim a lot.

Marcus & Jax, the main characters have serious issues and the story is dark indeed. After Jax (formerly Angela Giacomelli) is raped & almost killed, she is then set up by her former employer, the Boston PD. These two pretty much didn't trust anyone because of what happened to them in the past.

I liked them both enough as characters, but I couldn't take to Jax immediately. She was written (in my opinion) to be way too tough..hard, that is a total turn off for me in a female character. Now, I am all for kick ass chicks, but this one was just way too messed up and I just couldn't get into her. I also didn't take to Marcus either..also for the same reasons I stated for Jax.

These two were pretty much sent out by their superiors to find out what is going on with each other organizations and then kill each other. But in comes the attraction and romance, which as I mentioned earlier took way too long to get to. But once it was there, it was good enough for me.

All & all, I liked the story...didn't want to stalk it. It's pretty much the standard black ops vampires vs humans tale. I was so looking forward to a hot read..I mean look at the damn cover! & Marcus is hot to def (all of the dudes in the book were) but.... *le sigh*

Also, I just have to say that the Jax boss name throughout the book worked my nerves to no end...The Godfather...seriously? *rolls eyes*
