Hi Sexxy People,
We have another hot book to cover today...so welcome to my stop in Cari Quinn's Tour. Test Shot was one hell of a read, but you can catch my review at the end of this post. In the meantime, she's going to talk to us a bit...
How far is too far?
Thank you so much to Salacious Reads for having me here today!
TEST SHOT is one of those books that won’t work for everyone. I knew that while writing it, and judging from some of the reactions I've received, that’s held true. For one, Aidan, Layla’s fiancé and the man who suggests to Layla they bring another man into their bedroom, is not an easy man to like. Even for his creator. He was stubborn and closed-off throughout the entire time I wrote the book, unlike Sawyer, the third spoke of their triangle, who would share every secret he’s ever had with someone within five minutes of meeting them. The men couldn't have been more different—and Layla was caught between them, which in theory might not be a bad place to be. In the reality of this book, she had a heck of a choice on her hands. She, too, was caught between her heart and her mind, her gut and her past.
TEST SHOT is the first book in the Hot Shots series, and next up is Drew’s story. He and his heroine Kirby were actually my inspiration for the Hot Shots agency for erotic talent in New York City. Do you ever have an idea that won’t leave you alone? That was me with this series. It changed a lot over the past couple of years, but the core remained mostly intact. And that core was that Drew was an adult entertainer AKA a porn star. His inspiration was originally adult actor James Deen, who looks cute and relatively wholesome…yet so is not. I've read several interviews with him where he mentions he’s only ever wanted to be in porn and started plotting to become an adult actor in high school. So of course I began to wonder: who gets into adult entertainment and why? Drew’s story was born from there.
Which brings me to the topic of my blog post. How far is too far in the books you read? Do you have any lines you won’t cross, whether that’s cheating (with or without the significant other’s permission, though that’s a gray area sometimes) or a certain profession a character holds, or something else that just drags you out of the story? If so, what is that line and does it depend on how the subject is handled? I’m looking forward to chatting with all of you!

Layla Palmer is starting over in New York City with a new job at Hot Shots, an agency that specializes in hiring talent for jobs with an erotic bent. Happily engaged, she writes off the changes in her relationship with her fiancé, Aidan, as growing pains. But that all comes into question when her beloved fiancé comes up with a startling suggestion: he wants to watch her have sex with another man.
Aidan's a man on the edge, fighting demons he won't name in fear of losing the woman he loves forever. But the game he's playing can only continue for so long, especially when the man they decide to invite into their bed turns out to be Layla’s newest prospective model, Sawyer Blake.
Passion explodes between them, threatening to spill over and burn them all. Soon Aidan and Layla's already incendiary relationship hits the boiling point. Now she's fighting her own battles, including the conflicted feelings of lust and love she harbors for both men. But how can she figure out who to trust when everything she ever knew is changing, including herself?
Test shot was a emotional and time consuming read and trust me when I say this, it is not a bad thing. I was emotional about all three of the main characters in the story...I wanted them all to have a happy ending and when I say time consuming...well I just could not put this book down, I had to finish it. Well worth the time I spent at my desk reading it *weg*
This story is just what Cari Quinn asks in her question above, but let's change the subject from books to relationships. I mean really how far would you go in your relationship to keep him OR her? Ms. Quinn takes this question and give us one sexually, emotionally charged read. All of the characters in Test Shot were strongly written. No one was perfect in this story..everyone was flawed. Really just normal people experiencing the daily angst we go through in life.
I truly loved this story. It was excellently written and the world building, as well as the characters were just a pull I just could not get enough of. I think anyone who is looking for true to life characters...who want to experience some very real emotions while they're reading will enjoy this story. Test Shot will take you on a loopy loop of a roller coaster ride. But isn't this what we're look for when we read? Stories that make us feel?
Bottom line..this is a good book. A highly recommended read here at Salacious Reads.
“TEST SHOT will lead you down a road of passion and heart break almost at the same time it takes you from the ultimate highs to the lowest of lows. You'll enjoy the roller coaster of human emotions and probably miss these characters when you reach the last page.”--5 Stars, Sizzling Hot Books
“This book is outstanding. It played with my emotions, tore strips off my heart and left me reeling. I didn’t expect this book to hook me the way that it did and didn’t predict the way the plot turns would leave me ignoring life in general to keep reading right up until the end.”--5 Stars, Scorching Book Reviews
“Man oh man, oh man! I love when I “discover” a new author who immediately engages me and makes me want to neglect everything in my house so I can finish her book from cover to cover. Cari Quinn has done that with her first book in the Hot Shots series, Test Shot. Besides an amazing cast of characters she has managed to write a brilliant story with a plot line quite unlike anything I’ve read before.”--A True Gem, 4.5 Stars, Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews
USA Today bestselling author Cari Quinn wrote her first story—a bible parable—in 2nd grade, much to the delight of the nuns at her Catholic school. Once she saw the warm reception that first tale garnered, she was hooked. She attempted her first romance in junior high, long before she'd ever read one. Writing what she knew always took a backseat to what she wanted to know, and that still holds true today.
Though she also fires up her computer as a graphic designer, proofreader and editor, she can’t resist the lure of disappearing into a world of her own creation. Now she gets to pen sexy romances for a living and routinely counts her lucky stars. The only thing she loves more than writing is hearing from readers! Visit Cari at www.cariquinn.com
