Once blissfully in love . . .

Poppy Lane is keeping secrets. Her powerful gift has earned her membership in the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals, but she must keep both her ability and her alliance with the Society from her husband, Winston. Yet when Winston is brutally attacked by a werewolf, Poppy's secrets are revealed, leaving Winston's trust in her as broken as his body. Now Poppy will do anything to win back his affections . . .

Their relationship is now put to the ultimate test.

Winston Lane soon regains his physical strength but his face and heart still bear the scars of the vicious attack. Drawn into the darkest depths of London, Winston must fight an evil demon that wants to take away the last hope of reconciliation with his wife. As a former police inspector, Winston has intelligence and logic on his side. But it will take the strength of Poppy's love for him to defeat the forces that threaten to tear them apart.

Winterblaze is one hell of a story. I think Kristen Callihan is one talented writer…she just knows how to bring emotions out in her characters as well as her readers. Winterblaze is Poppy’s story…the eldest on the sisters and this story picks up from Moonglow. We follow along as Poppy attempt to (re)work through her relationship with her husband Winston Lane as they fight a powerful foe who wants nothing more than to see Poppy suffer.... immensely.

At the end of Moonglow, Winston was attacked by a Werewolf (or what we thought was a werewolf)..he survived, but now knows of the other world…the supernatural world. He has also found out that his wife of fourteen years is head of the organization that helps keeps the supernatural’s of London a secret.

I have to say that it took me SOME time to warm to Poppy. I just couldn't get pass her hot and cold reactions through this story and this is not to say that Winston didn't have his own stuff because he had a big ass secret too…he just didn't remember it. But she just too cold to me and out of all of the Ellis sisters, I have to say that I really didn't like her that much. She got better towards the middle to end of the book...became more likable, but by then my mind was already made up and I just couldn't bring myself to like her…sorry. Poppy was still a formidable character…she was tough and at some moments throughout the story, she did show a vulnerable side.

Winston Lane is a totally different man in Winterblaze…gone is this almost Sherlock type character. Here we have a totally different man…he’s hard and bitter. But he still loves his wife and wants to still be with her, he just doesn't trust her. I liked the new Winston for in this story, he was in a sense, the perfect tortured male. Even more so that his brother-in-laws because although Winston wasn't a supernatural…his emotions throughout the story were raw...intense and I liked that about him.

Kristen has created I think a wonderfully paranormal historical romance series (can’t believe I just said all of that). But honestly, I think she nailed it. She gives us the dark world of old London with just amount of paranormal appeal that will keep readers coming back to the series even if you don’t like some of the characters very much. Excellent character and world building, Ms. Callihan, I believe misses nothing. I thought the flashes back in time when Winston was courting Poppy was a awesome addition to this story. It was like you got to know Winston and Poppy all over again. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series with Jack Talent & Mary Chase…should be very very interesting.

As the stories has progressed in this series...so has the sex scenes. They are much more sensual, hot and oh so good!
