In Highlander Most Wanted, a reclusive woman content to live in the shadows shows a Highland warrior the true meaning of love.

Genevieve McInnes is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finds that her spirit is bent but not broken. Still, her path toward freedom remains uncertain. Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen’s rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress—something warm, wicked, and tempting.

Bowen seizes his enemy’s keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He’s enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer’s skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her—even if it means losing her forever.

Genevieve McInnes has been a prisoner of the McHugh keep for over a year after that dirty dog of a man Ian McHugh kidnapped her and then brutally raped her and scarred her during that time. Her only hope is when the Montgomery’s and Armstrong’s come back to the keep to take care of Ian’s father Patrick. Bowen Montgomery as he storms into the McHugh keep is blown away by Genevieve’s beauty when she is the one to step forward and help a small child that those “rats” of McHugh’s sent out to surrender to the army that was sent to their keep.

I've read several books this past week that had me crying “literally” including this one.

Maya Banks I believe has switched roles in this series. She has turned the heroine in these stories into the tortured being…but she doesn't overwrite her characters. She has written them so that they are likable…no lovable all throughout the story. You feel sympathy for these women and you want them to win the battle that they have chosen to take on.

In the second book in the Montgomery & Armstrong series, we have Genevieve and Bowen. Genevieve…omg, this character was so strongly written. You felt empathy for her, but you don't pity her. Because even through all she went through in this story…she was still this strong woman, she wouldn't let Ian McHugh and his people beat her down. I loved that so much about her and I have to give Ms. Banks a big whopping hand clap for creating this character.

I just feel sometimes when we read about characters who are raped, some authors create them to be too unlikable because they are written to where they can't move on…they are constantly whining about what happened to them. That did not happen in this story. Yes, it was reflected on about what happened to Genevieve, but it was a constant downer. Maya Banks worked the story around what happened and out came this beautiful romance that was just a damn tear-jerker.

Bowen Montgomery…(seriously my book boyfriends are going to be falling out of my damn closet soon). Here again is where Maya shines. So you have a tortured female? Give her a man that would give up home and family for her. That is what Bowen was willing to do for Genevieve, the man was just awesome. He was loving, caring and so protective of her. My goodness, he was so delicious!

Even though Highlander Most Wanted was heart breaking to read, the world building was clever and the characters were well written. Highly recommended read here at Salacious Reads. Grab it up as soon as you can, I don’t think you will regret it all.

  1. I haven't managed to get my hands on any books by MB, but her historicals sounds fabulous!

  2. Maya is one of my favorites Sharonda! LOVE the woman! I haven't tried her historicals yet but her KGI romantic suspense is to die for. The last one about did me in (the heroine in that one was raped during the book). Was very hard to read but an incredible book and yeah no wimpy women for her. Whew they are amazing!

  3. They are so addictive..u are going to love them #trustme ;)

  4. Omg...she writes such strong characters and I love her for that ;) Im seriously a fan now..cannot wait for the next book in this series. Im gonna have to try her KGI series too

  5. omg they are so good. When I was about to hit 30 and complaining like you wouldn't believe I told my friends that if they got me a Kelly Brother (that the series is based on) I'd swear to never ever complain about a birthday again. LOVE those men. Sexy covers too ;)

  6. Lols...well that is a gift to ask for ;)

Ok Im def adding this one to my TBR list then.

  7. I'm reading Never Seduce a Scot right now, cuz I got this one off NetGalley too! I'm in love with the Montgomerys and Armstrongs! I almost gave up on Maya Banks when I read her first historical last year, but I'm glad I didn't. She's really improved in her highlander books! And I love her characters!

Great review! I can't wait to read about Bowen. and Genevieve!

  8. Thank u Ning ;) oh I loved Never Seduce a Scot...soo good. I cant wait to see your review on both books. The Montgomerys & Armstrongs are just too resistable!

  9. poooh, too bad i dont have a historical romance loving bone in my body! >.< LOL still, ive seen this baby around and maya banks is a well loved author, sooo i miiight give it a go someday... maybe xD lol great review Sharonda im glad the heroine wasnt a whiny baby and the hero so yummy and loveable :)

  10. Thanks Neyra ;) Lols..I so dislike whiny bratty chicks, which is why I stopped reading a lot of historical romances...all of the characters were starting to sound the same. N Blackthorne, S Day & now M Banks changed that for me. They def are ones to read..I love romance with history ;) im just glad these ladies piqued my interest again.

I took a quick liking to this series after the first book.
