Historical ~ May-Dec ~ Novel Length, approx. 85,000 words.
Leagues apart in society, they can have only one possible future, that of protector and mistress...
Jeanne Darling spent her adolescence coping with her father's increasing illness and insanity. Left alone by his death and plunged into poverty, she did what she had to do to survive. Now still reeling from the overwhelming physical and emotional demands her father's care required, she values her peace above all. She doesn't need anyone or anything except her writing and the safety of her rented garret chamber. She's about to rise above her past and create financial independence for herself. What she absolutely does not need is the mysterious and possibly insane stranger who walks into the coffee shop and into her life.
David Somerville, the Duke of Hartley, has known pain and betrayal from the people closest to him. Born to privilege, power and wealth, and filled with idealistic vision for humane change, he gives all of himself to his political career. He keeps his life circumspectly under control. But one day, all the carefully arranged threads of his life unravel and his life intersects with Jeanne's in a way that challenges his view of everything he thinks he knows.
Leagues apart in society, they can have only one possible future, that of protector and mistress. And neither wants to risk deeper connection. However, their overwhelming attraction and resulting sexual games provide them with pleasures neither of them has ever known. Will their sensual journey lead them to discover a more emotionally profound side to domination and submission? Or will their seemingly insurmountable differences and passionate personal goals drive them apart?

Okay, I’ve said I can’t gush enough about Natasha’s work and honestly I can’t. This is another book I simply adored…Her Mystery Duke is another wonderful example of Natasha’s writing and in my humble little opinion historical romance at its best. She always has the right amount of everything going on in her stories, but mainly the base element which is erotica...it’s hot and downright sexxy. I mean…could you imagine folks back then “doing it” the way this woman writes it? Lord, I hope so…it would make the Regency period much much more interesting…lols.
Her Mystery Duke is a story of two people set literally worlds apart in social standards. Jeanne who is an aspiring writer is poor, female and alone. David is a rich and powerful Duke…a politician. But what draws these two together is their loneliness and as we read on, their carnal need for each other. Both of these characters are strong on their own, proving over and over again that they need no one or nothing to survive.
"You don't realize that this between us was never safe."
Jeanne more so than David. Being a woman in that time was not easy if you weren't married or the daughter of “somebody”. So Jeanne survived the be best way she knew how…what she was taught. I felt so sad her character…I honestly don’t know if I would have survived during this time and let me tell you, I consider myself a strong woman, but the things that we had to go through back then…jeez. And if you were below what was considered the social standard? Well…then it was probably ten times worse for you. But as Natasha says...her characters are not wilting females (thank good gravy!). No, ladies...these woman are very sexually aware. They know exactly what they want from their men.
David, I loved his character. Natasha always seems to redeem these alpha men., you’re cheering for them to win the good fight. They have all the privilege that a man of that time could want or need. But her characters are not the usually smug and selfish men we read about so much in HR’s. These men rather compliment the women they are destined it seems to be with. Are they arrogant and a little pushy? Maybe…Dominant...oh hell yes. But you love them anyway…why? Because they support these women and not just financially…I’m talking emotionally. It gives me the shivers every time I read about one of them…makes me wanna go find a David (but thank good gravy I have one already).
The erotic elements in this book are off the charts! I cannot give you the words of how sexy and hot it was. There are light BDSM tones to the scenes and let me tell you, mmmmm…mmmmm! I read a couple of scenes twice. Another author who makes me so glad the BF is on speed dial…lmbo!!!
Seriously though...Her Mystery Duke is a well executed and thought provoking read. If you have a love of Historical Romances with an erotic twist to the tale…then ladies!…ladies, you have to read Natasha’s work. You will become a fan…I guarantee it.
I never try to call the Lord's name out in vain...but I musta said "Good God" about 100 times while reading the scenes in this story...
