Review: Nobody's Hero by Kallypso Masters

Published: December 11, 2011
Format: eBook
***my own person copy
Series: Master At Arms #3
Available: Barnes & Noble / Amazon

Retired Marine Master Sergeant Adam Montague has battled through four war zones, but now finds himself running from Karla Paxton, who has declared war on his heart. With a twenty-five year age difference, he feels he should be her guardian and protector, not her lover. But Karla's knack for turning up in his bed at inopportune times is killing his resolve to do the right thing. Karla isn't a little girl anymore—something his body reminds him of every chance it gets.

Karla Paxton fell in love with Adam when she was a sixteen-year-old runaway and he rescued her. Now, nine years later, she's determined to make Adam see her as a woman. But their age difference is only part of the problem. Adam has been a guardian and protector for lost and vulnerable souls most of his life, but a secret he has run from for more than three decades has kept him emotionally unable to admit he can love anyone. Will she be able to lower his guard long enough to break down the defenses around his heart and help him put to rest the ghosts from his past? In her all-out war to get Adam to surrender his heart, can the strong-willed Goth singer offer herself as his submissive—and at what cost to herself?

CONTENT INFO: This couple's story begins in Masters at Arms and continues in Nobody's Angel. This is not a stand-alone novel. This book contains very erotic scenes that include BDSM (bondage-discipline-domination-submission-sadism-masochism-master-slave)—but these ALWAYS will be safe, sane, and consensual (SSC) acts told in a more realistic approach to the BDSM genre. Includes rough sex, Shibari (rope bondage and suspension), anal play, cunnilingus, fellatio, flogging, sex toys, and intensely erotic "vanilla" sexual acts. Length: approximately 137,000 words.

Ah Kallypso…the stories you write…smh. Yeah, this is the title of said authors blog.

I’m a fan of this woman, she writes with such honesty and passion. Oh and lets not forget about those sex scenes…O.M.G! a girl can’t drink her wine and read these stories…too much, I say. But, I’m off track…back to the review.

Like most of K. Masters reads, these stories aren't just about the BDSM world, there is a depth to these characters…simply they have their reasons for being WHO they are and why they are in this world. So if you did not get this story while reading...then shame on you.

Reading about Adam in the first books in the Master At Arms series…you would think that there is nothing going on with this man because he’s everyone’s rock. A in charge Dominant and Master Sergeant, but oh this story reveals so much more about my Master…oh yes, I’m calling him that.

No…pretties, Sharonda does not give details (yeah…I’m going to make you want to READ this book!). But Master Adam has a deep dark past and you have to read Nobody’s Hero to find out what that is. He has, however a strong female in his life that would NOT back down. Karla…now that is a girl after my own heart. Knows what she wants and fights for it.

Was I uncomfortable with the age difference between these two…oh no. You will definitely burn the pages of your NOOK, Kindle, paperback...whateva! Because our author made Karla the pursuer..oh, yes…Kitten wanted her Marine…badly! and the way she fought for our Marine....lovely.

There is a lot going on between Adam and Karla. Kallypso Masters has wove another tale that was so deep and emotional. You may walk away from this story feeling a little bruised. But what did I ask you in my last review...what is a story...a book if it cannot PEOPLE, make you feel?

Perfection is all I can say. Honestly if YOU have not even read this series as of yet…then W…T…H are you doing with your life? Seriously…get it, read it, love it..hate it...just mu**f**ing read it!

Now, off note…I know K. Masters has Gibbs (Mark Harmon from NCIS) in mind for Adam. Okay! (that's in my oldest voice..hehehe...) now..don’t get me wrong, I like Gibbs…I see it, but not clearly. You know who I see?...Stephen Lang…now look at that man & tell me you don’t see Dom…Master…controlling..lols. Cause, hell I see it!

**images obtained from avatarmovie.com & movieweb.com

My favorites throughout this read...Adam's often "fuck" sentences...and yes, Karla's name was usually in there...
"Karla...what the Fuck?"
"Karla..you got to get the Fuck out of this bed?"
"What the Fuck?!"

lols...I love Master Adam!

I've never been one for older men...honestly, no I likes 'em young. BUT Master Adam...oh, I will take him strung up or whateva..because HE is the man! yeah...I just said that!

Quickie Review: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

City of Bones
(Book #1 in the Mortal Instruments series)
Amazon | Goodreads | BN

Author: Cassandra Clare
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books (March 27, 2007)
Genre: Young Adult, Urban Fantasy, 485 pages

ISBN-10: 9781416955078
ISBN-13: 978-1416955078
ASIN: 1416955070
My Copy: Paperback

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Alright, I'm sure all of you have read this by now, but I figured I minus well review it, since I've read it. Right? So, thus, I am now doing quickie reviews.

City of Bones took a while for me to get into. Making that transition from Adult back into YA is kind of disorienting. Okay...seriously disorienting. It took me til about the halfway mark that I finally got into the book. But once I did hit that mark, reading this book was easy sailing.

City of Bones is the first book in the Mortal Instruments series. You've got Clary who is a straight up Mundane (human turd with no outstanding abilities, unless hailing a cab on the busy, busy streets of New York City is considered an ability. But, even then, you have to master the art of man handling the mean cab driver) but wait! She's not a Mundane! Clary thinks she's just a normal teenage girl with teeny bopper problems until she witnesses a murder at Pandemonium Club (don't worry, it's a teeny bopper club). She's the only one who see's what happens, which then launches her into the world of Shadowhunters who have a thing for fancy weapons to kill the big bad demons with.

Cassandra Clare takes you on an adventure through this world of crazy (awesome crazy) and gives it to you with a wam-bam-thank-you-ma'am kinda vibe. I can dig it. You're introduced to these Shadowhunters as well as a few vamps with flying motorcycles. Seriously, these bad boys fly! You follow Clary and the band of Shadowhunters and learn just what a Shadowhunter is and how this world works. Clare breaks it down for you in kid bite sizes and throws some kickass scenes in to boost up your heart rate.

I really enjoyed this book, of course, after I got through the first half. I thought the characters were pretty cool and very well developed. You're introduced to a lot in this book, but I feel Clare really led you in slowly and held your hand the whole way. I would definitely recommend this book if you're a YA lover. Also all you Urban Fantasy lovers? This one's for you too :p

Tuesday Jams #18

Tuesday Jams is a weekly post hosted by Sharonda @ Salacious Reads. This is a way to share with others your love (other then books of course) for music! Want to participate? Easy! Head on over to Salacious Reads & link back up with her Tuesday Jams post in her comments section!
What's up lovely people?! I know, Ana hasn't been jamming... well, I haven't been jamming here on the blog lately :( But, I have been jammin' everywhere else. I recently just started listening to a band that I used to listen to all the time a year or so ago. So... let's jump right into it, shall we?

Have y'all heard of FM? No? Well then! FM is a British AOR/80's Band. This band was formed in 1984. And the original members consisted of...

Merv Goldsworthy (bassist)
Peter Jupp (drummer)
Phillip Manchester a.k.a Didge Digital (pianist)
Chris Overland (lead guitarist)
Steve Overland (guitarist/vocalist)

This band was introduced to me by a good friend of mine from Wales, UK. And if it weren't for him, I wouldn't know what real music is. Or so he says. lmbo. Bloody fker that he is. xD

I absolutely love every song that this band has come out with. Their debut album, Indiscreet, came out in 1986 with their hit single Frozen Heart. And they released 4 more albums after that. FM fell apart in 1995 through to 1997 and then reformed and released their new album (new then) Metropolis in 2010 (which I LOOOVE) lol.

Here they are! Reformed and together again. Of course, a few new members to replace those who left. Here's the lineup...

Merv Goldworthy (bass/backing vocals)
Peter Jupp (drums/backing vocals)
Jem Davis (keyboards) (taking Didge Digital's spot in 1993)
Jim Kirkpatrick (lead guitarist/backing vocals)
Steve Overland (guitarist/lead vocalist)

Past members who've come and gone:
Andy Barnett taking Chris Overland's spot as lead guitarist in 1991

Albums & release dates:
Indiscreet - 1986
Tough It Out - 1989
Takin' It to the Streets - 1991
Aphrodisiac - 1992
Dead Man's Shoes - 1995
-----DISBANDED 1995 - 2007-----
Metropolis - 2010

Press play on the music player at the bottom of this page to listen to a few of their songs! Enjoy :)

Tuesday Jams

Welcome to another edition of Tuesday Jams, a weekly post hosted here @ Salacious Reads. This is my way to share with you another one of my loves...music. Wanna share your favorite song or artist, just comment linking back to your site & I'll be sure to stop by.

I've been listening to Melanie Fiona this week...her voice is so soulful and *shivers* the girl can sang...okay!

On her latest album, there is a song called "Bones". Now this album is two parts..she actually explains the reasoning for a specific song on her album...I like that. Well Bones as you can imagine in my opinion..is the thought of a love so consuming of someone so much, that you just have to get to the core of that person....oh, it's deep!

The last couple of books I've read these past couple of weeks kind of resonate with this song...

"Bones" by Melanie Fiona

Review: Rebecca's Lost Journals: The Seduction (Vol. 1) by Lisa Renee Jones

Published: January 28, 2013
Format: eBook
**My Personal Copy brought from BN.com
Series: Inside Out Novella's #1
Available: Barnes & Noble / Amazon

An Inside Out novella...

The secret life of Rebecca and the men who have seduced her.
These are the journals Sara never sees, but you the reader, will!

More details!

The journals read like stories and begin the first time Rebecca visits the gallery in the INSIDE OUT TRILOGY. You will meet Mark, Chris, Ava, Amanda, Ricco, and all the series characters as she does AND there are tons of clues to what happens in BEING ME in the first 4 serials. They are woven within the story ready for your discovery, as is Rebecca's dark, erotic journey.

Well, I brought this book on Saturday..pre-ordered it and all.

*shakes heads up & down* I see you Lisa Renee Jones…I see ya. Written in diary format, we finally get a peek into Rebecca’s world, that mystery girl that Sarah in IIWY went searching for and then got lost in that world herself…

We find out how she, Rebecca...came to work at the Gallery…how she met Mark and the rest of the crew. But oh Mrs. Jones, what a tangle web you have wove, my dear. You leave out who Rebecca’s Dom is….oooo…ooooo, you sneaky author you. I LOVE IT…lols.

Rebecca’s Lost Journals as I mentioned are written in Journal format and you the reader get to delve into this woman's life. Read about her feelings and figure out who the Dom is in her life…who she decided to give complete control over to. I have to admit, I was totally blown away. What IIWY didn't do for me, The Seduction totally did. There is enough mystery here to leave THIS reader guessing and wondering what Rebecca will or won’t do and for the love all Good Graviness…who the hell this elusive Dom is.

Lisa Renee Jones stole my breath in this little novella…so much so that I had to talk myself into getting book 2. And it went a lil like this….
Me: okay, self…I have to get Book 2!
Self: what the hell are you talking about? Budget woman!
Me: it’s only $99 cents..shut up “finger is on trigger” @ B&N
Self: I’m gonna tell!!!!
Me: *hand freezes on trigger & narrows eyes on self* “Tell who?” *voice rises* “I’s Grown”
Self: *sighs & rolls eyes* “seriously, “I’s Grown”, “really?, what are you like six?!”
Me: “Oh come on! I mean…really. It was like soooooo good, I have to know who the Dom is!”
Self: *scrunches face & thinks* “hmmmmm, well when you fantasize, can I do….
Me: “HEY…HEY, now! Slow up sista.
Self: “Wha????”
Me: *sighs* alright…alright…
Self: “woot…woot!” “okay…go get your lil book while I think of devious things to do to you know who” *cackles & walks away*
Me: “damn!” *head to B&N website* “I’m gonna get myself in trouble” *shakes head* “that doesn't sound right at all! BUT I gotta finds out who this man is…”
Well Lisa Renee Jones… I've officially gotten "myself" in trouble, smh. Rebecca’s Lost Journals was just that good and I’m hooked…on to book 2.

ARC Review ~ The Love of My (Other) Life by Traci L. Slatton

Expected Publication Date: January 21, 2013
Format: eBook (ARC)
**provided by publisher through NetGalley for the purpose of an honest review

What worlds would you move to be with your soulmate?

Painter Tessa Barnum is struggling. Her husband left, she's broke, about to be evicted and has made some serious missteps in her career.
When scruffy Brian Tennyson explodes into her life, claiming to be from an alternate universe, Tessa thinks he's a crazy vagabond - albeit one with mysterious and undeniable appeal.

Then he informs her that in his world, they're married.

Tessa's universe is turned upside down as the truth of love and loss, victory and humiliation, and second chances comes back to her. She has to choose love over logic to reach that state of anticipation where miracles unfold. The secret to her own life was always in her heart.

Looking at the cover of this book, you would maybe think erotica...right? Maybe? I admit I did and yes I did read the blurb. There wasn't one erotic word in this story and I have to say that I was happy it wasn't.

What you get instead is a sweet romantic (and very often comedic) story of two people overcoming life's little hiccups and loss.

Tessa and Brian were a joy to read...two totally different people drawn together even in alternate universes. It was so funny to read Brian chasing Tessa all around NY trying to convince her that he's not crazy and that they're married in another universe. All throughout this story I kept trying figure out why Brian wanted to find this Tessa...why not any other Tessa. I figured out at the end of the story which was so perfect that it had me crying. I simply loved it.

This is my first read by Traci L. Slatton and I have say she has a fan. She wove a wonderful tale here. The world building was beautifully written and the characters were romantic and funny to boot. And I just loved the sci-fi fantasy twist to it as well, it was a good fit to this story.

The Love of My (Other) Life is a quirky story. You may be a little confused while reading some parts (I was), BUT...it hits all of the right spots and is a feel good type of a book. I'm glad I read it.
