Review: Taming the Scotsman by Sienna Mynx

You know some reviews just get you all emotional…I mean you can’t help it. Some characters just drive you insane…you wish for a moment that they were real so that you can punch, kick or maybe mush em in them the face...tell em to GTFOH!

There maybe some spoilers with this one, but it can’t be helped lass..lols. Taming the Scotsman was a funny, sexy engaging story. I think Ms Mnyx writing was well done and she was able to get you to feel what her characters felt. This story wasn’t super intense, but there was still a intensity and tension between her main characters that were very likable.

*cracks knuckles* lets start with our male lead shall we? Alec Cavanaugh was not a nice man. He was rude, obnoxious and a major jack-TO-the ass. His character is one you probably would not like even at the end of the story. Truly throughout most of the book, I wanted to kick his ass to the moon and leave him there stranded with NO helmet. But to be fair, there is a reason the man was the way he is. After his father died, a skank of all skanks attempted to use him when he was at his most vulnerable so when it comes to women, he really doesn’t trust them…at all…period. Plus he has to deal with his father’s enemy who keeps sending people to spy on him (hence the skank) and a medling mother who wants him married so he can produce an heir like now.

Jayla Howard *sigh* how can I explain the woman? She was sweet and nice, a person who would give you the shirt off her back BUT she was a little wimpy. She’s this quiet woman who keeps to herself and never been outside of Alabama, but there was this tendency to let folks run all over her…the girl didn’t stick up for herself and unfortunately this bad habit of hers allowed her to be used throughout the story even by her own brother, the chump. If my brother would have treated and talked to me the way Edward did to Jayla and AFTER the way she took care of his rotten ass after their parents died…OMG, it would have been hell on earth! I would have been kicking his ass all over the planet and then boxed his ear for talking smack.

This story was sorta like of watching a boxing match. Alec kept ducking and weaving and Jayla…well she was just swinging all over the place. See Alec knew that Jayla and her brother were up to something…knew that his Father’s enemy sent her brother Edward to spy on him, he just didn’t have the whole story when it came to Jayla. And because of his attraction to her, he really didn’t know how to handle his ever growing feelings towards Jayla. Hell, he did a whole lot of stomping and yelling when she was around…lols.

I liked the story…I thought it was a mixture of sweetness and grit. I like Alec in a way because he just didn't bend to anyones whim, he was a man's man His mother wanted him married, he was like fuck that...I'll get married when I want and to whom I want. He just didn't bow to what society thought he should be...I really liked that about him.

And Oh lawd the sex scenes were raw! You hear me! I mean even if Alec was a jackass, I kinda sorta felt like Jayla…shit as long as he would be doing me the way he was doing her? Hell! I mean a little headboard knocking and legs to your ears ain’t never hurt nobody! Hmmm…maybe I’m a wimp too…lols.

The ending had me all misty eyed and I still wanted to crack Alec, Jayla’s brother and a few choice others in the face. Its so sad to see when someone with such a beautiful soul as Jayla’s get broken because they just get tired of people taken advantage of them...especially the ones you love and trust.

Great story…great characters and sometimes Ms. Mynx characters aren’t that likeable, but I always feel that the road to happy every after shouldn’t always be so easy. I like when characters fight…I like it when a man or woman has to claw and scrap to get their lover back…make them work for it. It makes the story more relatable…it gives the characters depth. That’s just me…I like complicated sometimes.

So this weekend, I some pretty good books to choose quotes from. But I was able to choose one...yay me! Sienna Mynx is a new to me author who writes interracial romances. Taming The Scotsman was a fun, sexxy interesting read. But I swear I wanted to knock Alec straight upside his head...that's exactly what Jayla should have did...a couple of times...fool!

Jayla closed her eyes and raised her head heavenwad. "Jesus, forgive me." She opened them again. "You." She pointed a finger in his face "Can kiss my ass."
Alec frowned.
"I'd rather walk back in the snow barefoot and bottomless than give you a roll!" She said with air quotes over 'roll'. "Every time I think you're decent you remind me of how much of a jackass you are. And what's pathetic is I actually think you believe some of the crap you say. People around here walk on egg shells and tolerate your nastiness and you exploit their weakness. Get off on it."
Alec narrowed his eyes on her. "Careful, lass, not into a mouthy wench. It's a turn off!"
Her mouth went instantly dry. In all her life, she never despised a person as much as she did him at that moment. This time she wouldn't run, hide, or even back down. She crossed her arms, tapping her left foot, seconds from exploding. This time she'd fight back. "I wouldn't sleep with you if your life depended on it. In a few seconds it will if you don't move and let me out of this room. You jackass!"
Alec ran his tongue over his teeth. his lips pressed tightly shut, looking her over. Was he sizing her up? Was he going to force her? He better not try. She'd beat him with that bottle in his hand.

I loved when Jayla got fierce...she was such a sweet person and just about everyone in this book took advantage of the woman. I was so happy when she told his ass off!

Oh & this one is FREE too lovelies!

Her Wicked Angel – Excerpt
“Come, we must move.” Asmodeus scooped her up into his arms and beat his wings before she could even form a response, taking off into the crisp night air.

It was getting chilly.

Liora used it as an excuse to cuddle up to his bare chest and was thankful he only had partial armour. It was much nicer curling up against hard hot flesh than it would have been rubbing against cold metal plates.

“You’re going to be in trouble, aren’t you?” she said and the breeze carried her voice over his shoulder.

He beat his shadowy black wings and took them higher, until they were gliding above the city and she couldn’t take her eyes off how beautiful it was. All the lights twinkled in the darkness and cars streamed down streets forming bright slashes of red and white. Boats caused the wide river to glow in places. The Eiffel Tower sparkled in the distance.

“Perhaps,” he whispered and she felt his gaze shift to her, boring into the side of her face. “But I have a feeling that you may be worth it.”

She smiled at that. How could anyone think this man pure evil? She had only had to speak to him to know that while he held darkness inside him, and was capable of great cruelty and violence, there was still some good in him, hidden away beneath the vicious exterior he wore like a shield.

She turned her head to look at him but he moved his gaze away from her, looking down at the city as they flew over it instead. She drank him in, studying the nuances of his expression as his golden gaze flitted around, taking in the scene stretching below them. The wind ruffled his wild black hair and she ached to brush her fingers through it, combing it back and feeling its silkiness just as nature was allowed to do.

“Will the Devil send more men for me?” She feared the answer to that question even though she already knew it deep in her heart.

The black slashes of his eyebrows met in a frown and his golden eyes darted to her. “Yes.”

“Will you fight them?” Her voice trembled and she hoped he would think it was the wind that caused it, not the fear growing in her heart. She had never been this afraid before, had always faced things head-on and without flinching, even as a child. The thought that the Devil wanted her for some nefarious reason and had sent his best man to retrieve her, marking her as important to him, made cold steal into her veins and sent a shiver through her soul.

Asmodeus hesitated and something surfaced in his eyes, something that set her on edge. He looked uncertain.

Over a year ago, Serenity had called and told her that they had to cancel their get together because something had happened to Apollyon. Heaven had exercised its will on him and had controlled him, forcing him to do their bidding against his will, and it had shaken the powerful male.

If Heaven held that power over Apollyon, did that mean Hell and the Devil wielded it over Asmodeus?

“I will try.” He looked away again, the sombre note to his deep voice and the fraction of his emotions that she could sense with her power conveying that he meant it but he didn’t believe he would be able to defeat whatever force the Devil sent after him.

All the more reason to ask Apollyon and Serenity for help, but she still couldn’t bring herself to raise it with him, not while everything felt so tentative and liable to fall apart if she mentioned the other angel.

“Perhaps you would be safer away from me.”

Liora stared at him, shock rippling through her. “No. I’m safer with you.”

“Do not fool yourself, Liora. I feel your fear. I thrive on that emotion. It gives me pleasure as much as anger and rage, and pain.” His voice gained a dark edge that echoed within his power and she frowned when she realised what he was doing. He was driving a wedge between them. He meant to make her leave. “You are safer away from me.”

“I am safer with you. If anyone has the power to protect me, it’s you, Asmodeus.”

“Or Apollyon. He would be the better choice. He is always the better choice.” The darkness in his voice turned to bitterness that she could feel lacing his power and she held on to him.

“How do you know he’s the better choice for me? Isn’t it my choice?” She glared at him now and then it faded away when she caught the tiny almost imperceptible grain of fear hidden beneath his other emotions.

Fear that he would fail her?

Or fear that he would end up doing as his dark master commanded and would hurt her?

He thrived on seeing others hurt and their suffering. He was afraid that the Devil would make him harm her and that he would end up enjoying it. She had thought the Devil would be sick and twisted, but this was taking sick and twisted to a whole new level.

“Asmodeus,” she whispered and he looked at her, his beautiful golden eyes void of any warmth. She wished she could touch his cheek and reassure him somehow, but she didn’t want to loosen her grip on him when they were so high above the city. “You will not fail me.”

He looked away again and uncertainty filled his eyes for a brief few seconds before they cleared again.

“Apollyon will not fail you. I am only a shadow of that male.”

It struck her that he was having one serious existential crisis and she was in part to blame for it. Her careless words when they had first met had dealt blows and wounded him, and now he couldn’t shake the doubts that she had placed in his head. She wished she had the ability to turn back time and relive that moment all over again with the knowledge she had now, but even she wasn’t that powerful.

All she could do was try to smooth things out and heal the wounds she had unwittingly inflicted with her words.

“You’re not a shadow… not any more than I’m a shadow of my cousin. She’s so damn good and caring, and I’m reckless and wild, and liable to go off demon hunting without telling anyone, and I’m forever getting into scrapes. Everyone tells me I should be more like her… but I’m not her. We share blood but we’re not the same person. We couldn’t be more different.” Liora leaned in and pressed a kiss to his cheek, lingering with her lips against his cool flesh.

He paused, beating his wings to keep them steady in the night air high above the glittering lights of Paris.

“You won’t fail me, Asmodeus. I’m choosing you,” she whispered against his skin and then settled her head on his shoulder, waiting for him to rebuff her.

He didn’t.

She looked down at the quiet world below them.

“Do you like the view?” she said to fill the silence.

“It seems alien to me… bright and colourful… strange… unsettling.” He didn’t sound as if he liked it. “Hell is a black cavernous ceiling above a forbidding harsh landscape. Rivers of molten lava and lakes of fire provide the only natural light. It is… different to this world. You would think it bleak, desolate and dangerous.”

Everything Apollyon had told her it was.

She frowned and looked at Asmodeus. “Then you’ve never seen the stars?”

His golden gaze drew away from the world below them and rose to meet hers. “No.”

“Will you take me somewhere?”

He nodded. “Where?”

Liora bravely took one hand away from his neck and Asmodeus’s grip on her increased, drawing her closer to him, filling her with a sense of safety that felt strange considering he was apparently made of pure evil. She didn’t think a male with nothing but evil in his heart would care much about whether she fell to her death or not. A male who was only evil and nothing good would have laughed as she fell and ensured he was close enough to get a good view when she splatted against the pavement.

She pointed to the distance, to the darkness beyond the city boundaries. “Take me out there. Take me to the stars.”

Before kids and the responsibility of life, Levi and I shared a spontaneous, erotic, and deliciously deviant marriage. But the years

transformed what we had into something comfortable and worn. It hurts me to think his desire for me has cooled. I miss that look of his. Slightly evil and totally hot, like he wanted to devour me. Haven’t seen it in ages.

When I first married Mia, she submitted to every one of my erotic needs. Then came the children. With little complaint, I abandoned my pursuit of kink, content to be married to a beautiful, intelligent woman who’s a great mother to our twins. Out of the blue, Mia confesses she misses the intimacy in our marriage, misses the sex. After this enticing revelation, my plan to reconnect with her unfolds.

In our secret, kinky, Friday afternoon meetings I’m going to give her everything she wants and take everything I need. Will this be the answer to fixing our marriage?

Review: Fallen by Elise Marion

Source: Purchased (Free Book & it still is)
Published: November 3, 2011
Self Published
Series: Angels Among Us #1
Book Blurb
Sex: PG - Medium Sexual Situations
Authors Website
Genre: Paranormal, Romance

This story was short and sweet even with the slight religious tones. Even though the love between an Angel and Human is forbidden, Amir (the angel) and Shayla (the human) cannot help the feelings that are growing between them.

Amir is a healing angel sent to heal Shayla after she is in a brutal car accident. As he heals and cares for her, he starts to see the strong woman that is beneath the bandages and he cannot help but fall. Shayla has no one and after being enstranged from her parents over the past two years, Amir is welcome company (even if he is a stranger) while she recuperates.

Even though this book was 76 pages, it really did feel like a full lenght read. Amir and Shayla were a cute couple together and although the sexxy times weren't what I usually read, they were still hot and full of tension especially because Amir knew that being with Shayla was forbidden.

The fold out of the story was simple and straight to the point. I espcially like that the author made her angels falliable, whereas they still are able to feel what humans feel even though they are held at higher morals. It made them relatable and you felt for Amir as he struggled with his attraction towards Shayla and his job an healing angel. I really did like the fact that she made his decision tough, he didn't just make a choice and there would be no consequences. Because whether he chose Shalya or not, he would loose something.

All and all the characters were very likeable and so was this story. Ms. Marion definitely has a new stalker *coughs* I mean reader to her books.
