Quote-Tastic #19 - Beneath the Who?

Monday, May 5, 2014

Hosted by Anna over at Herding Cats & Burning Soup, join us every Monday and share a favorite quote from a favorite or current read.

This week quote is courtesy of Beneath the Boss, book #3 by Lydia Rowan.

"I owe you everything, Leighton, and I won't ever be able to repay you, no matter how hard I try. You made me who I am today. And I resent that and I hate myself for resenting it but I want to--need to--know that we're equals."

She was babbling now, her vision blurred by tears, and Leighton round the desk and lowered himself in front of her, wrapping her hand in his.

"You don't owe me anyting Layla. You are and were a brilliant, enthusiastic, loyal, trustworthy woman. I'd have been a fool not to invest in you. And with your mother, well, that was just human."

A tear slipped down her cheek, and Leighton brushed it away with his thumb.

"And as far for us being equal, that can never be."

She looked into his eyes, dread and confusion filling her as his words sunk in.

"Never, not even on my best day, will I ever be as good, as kind, as fucking amazing as you are."

  1. Ah, that last part was perfect! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I don't read many workplace romances, but a friends to lovers particularly when he's a take-charge billionaire that needs a gal to bring out his soft side sounds good. Thanks for sharing! I'll have to check out book one especially since its a freebie.

  3. Only one purchase for the week? Not a bad start. I have a few I want to buy this month, but maybe I can keep from going crazy since I have a pile of freebies and reviews to tackle first. (Okay, probably not). My wish list just expands like yours. ;)

  4. Aws now that's a man. And totally not scared of tears. Love it.

  5. Okay she sounds like a pretty great heroine! I like the ones where they've got some history together. Haven't read too many workplace romances but hey I'm totally game. I grabbed the first yesterday to give it a go :)

  6. he definitely had his moments...lols. Thanks Melissa ;)

  7. I'm getting better! lols. I'm just to excited with myself ;D

Me too Sophia, I have to get my review & tbr pile. I just have to stay away from the dreaded 1 click if I can help it.

  8. I am loving the diversity in contemporary romances now. I saw it HERE first and I suggest you jump on that and feed on it. The conversation about diversity in reads is quite interesting and it's becoming pressing and as you're ahead of most of us, I think you and your blog can really make something out of it.

  9. I have to admit, thought I am reading some now. Every time I see the word serials I want to run. I am with you. Kudos to her for making it only 3 books!

    This series sounds sinfully sexy

  10. i only spent a few dollars this year too, I wish I could spend more but it's been tough as is. Great control :)

  11. thanks Lily. I've definitely watching my pennies. And, yeah...its tough so I really have to be mindful of my wallet ;)

  12. thanks Braine! Oh you'll see more diverse reads more and more at the blog. I think its something that needs to be addressed in all genres, but since I'm a romance reader...I'm taking on diverse romance reads more and more.

  13. right? lols. I always think who long are they going to keep this story going.

I think the author did a awesome job keeping it at just the 3 books. There were some errors in the 2nd book but it wasn't enough to make me stop, lols. Story was hot!

  14. Oooh you're doing great!! $14.78 was leftover so far? Holy! You kick ass.
