Several shot down videos and my phone being totally dead left me to review Secrets in words. I need a laptop like yesterday and I need to invest in another charger for work...lols. But enough about me, lets get to this review.
Secrects fits perfectly for the story that is going on inside these pages. I'm going to start by saying that I gave the first book Scars 3 heels but now that I have a better understanding of these characters...I might just change my inital rating. This is the 2nd book in Kiru Taye's Passion Shields series and O...m....Goodness! is it good. You find out so much about Benjamin and Selina as they both have pasts that they don't want to neccessarily share BUT for the survival of this relationship they will need too.
This second book comes in where Ben & Selina are learning to live together...this is a marriage of convenience.Ben is helping Selina obtain custody of her younger brother and she needs to be married. But these two are starting to grow feelings for one another and the marriage is becoming something real for the both of them. I felt Ben's secret was a bit more than Selina's and I say this because from book one we already learned what happened to Selina as a girl when she was in Seirra Leone, but we did not know the circumstances behind her capture and torture. Ben however has a past that can possibly ruin his marriage to Selina and this isn't something this man isn't willing to let go of.
Selina is starting to trust Ben more and it's not just with her body but with her saftey and heart. And Ben has worked diligentely to gains his new wife's trust. She is skittish so he understands the barriers she has decided to let down around him. But finding out about his past in Sierra Leone and what kind of man his Uncle is can ruin what he has worked so hard towards. That goal is Selina's trust and yes ultimately her love.
I was not a fan of Selina's from the first book Scars but I must say this woman has a reason to feel the fear and mistrust that she has of people. Her first husband let her down in the most devastating way and this led to her capture as a girl of 18 and scars on her lower body. So giving her trust to Ben is something sacred and finding ou that your new husband may have had something to do with a past she bitterly tries to forget BUT can't is not a good thing at all for her. Especially when she is falling in love with Ben more and more by the day.
Ben, oh I liked this man. Alpha and very dominant...he knows what he wants, he's controling and something of a neat freak but I believe he is someone that Selina needs in her life. Because of the way he is, he is helping Selina in so many ways. He is the first person she has shown her body too since the scars and the man is no whimp. He calls Selina on her fears...attempts to make her face them. He's not a bully, no BUT he is not the man to take her running away from everything and everyone so lightly. He definitely understands the reasons of why the way she is but he won't let her use them as an excuse either.
All and all I flipping loved this book. I like Selina so much more. After learning about Ben's time in Sierra Leone, she panicked at first and yes she did run. But after sitting down and thinking about the type of man that she's married too. She decided to give her marriage to Ben a fighting chance.
So what happens next? I don't know. How will both Ben and Selina deal with his Uncle. Being that the man is a racist and here Ben is married to a black woman. I'm dying to see how this will all play out. Oh, and we got to meet Ben's sister Beatrice in this one, but I don't have much to say about her..she could have took a leap off of Ben's pent house suite for all I cared. I didn't like her at all.
This is a novella but my review is long because there is a lot going on is this book, but I strongly suggest you read Scars first. Kiru wrote one hell of a story and I'm eager for the ending. Well written, engaging and quite realistic. Oh and the sexxy times? hell, they were hot. Ben and Selina play very well together BUT that part of their relationship was never a issue.
This is a excellent triology. Now Kiru, you need to hurry up and give me my ending girl ;)
