My Review

Black Soul is the perfect introduction to what seems is going to be a kick ass series, Black Warriors.  Here we are introduced to M’Na, a chi and gatekeeper; he protects humans from other Supes. He is tasked (voluntarily) to keep one human safe….Tara Woji. But there is something different about Tara. What she doesn’t know and refuses to believe in is...“others”.   Tara believes in science and other beings? Creatures outside this world?... they just cannot exists or do they?

The twist here is that Tara isn’t as human as she think she is. You see M’Na has volunteered to protect her for a reason. Tara is also a chi, but because she decided to go against the supernatural council that oversees the Chi’s and other Supes, she was stripped of her powers and pretty much forced to re-live life over and over again as a human. M’na who feels guilty because he felt that he did not do enough to sway Tara from becoming evil has vowed to protect her as a human until hopefully one day…she can remember him and their time together.

I really enjoyed this story and I have to give it to Kiru for always managing to keep me surprised and in suspense with her excellent writing skills. I learned some African folklore and myth and loved the story immensely.  For a short novella, we received just about enough history of both Tara and M’na to be satisfied to go into the next book without being lost.

Again, a  wonderful introduction to Ms. Taye’s newest series Black Warriors. I say jump on this train, it will be a fun ride! If you are looking for a good start to a new and interesting series, then I say go for it and hell, it's #99cents...can't be that!

  6. LOL! Just stop it with the $.99 temptations. Kidding! This does have some unique worldbuilding too it and I love it when stories blend in the mythology stuff. Sounds very promising.

  7. Bwahahaha, I'm evil..I know ;) it was a bonus to have a different take in the paranormal world, highly enjoyable read.

  8. They can right? She was in denial bug time until M'na saved her butt :)

  9. Oooohhh I think I'll be grabbing this. Thanks lady!

  10. ya welcome ;) you have to let me know what you think if you do grab it ;)

  11. Tara sounds like she's a bit like a dummy for believing in science instead of what's right in front of her eyes, but every hero needs a damsel in distress to rescue, right? M'Na can take me on a train ride anytime though. *winks*
