Review: Girls Night Out, Volume 2

My apologies on this late post as it was suppose to had went up on Monday. But this past weekend left me a little whumped. It was my birthday and after last week and again this weekend, I was a little wore out and also a little sick. Who gets sick their birthday weekend? this girl...that's who. And then my return to work was hair pulling...it seemed like everyone wanted something...smh. So my apologies to Ms. Ellisson and the other ladies for the delay with my review.

Because this is a anthology, I'm going to break the reviews up by story/author.

Kissed by a Vampire by Patricia A. Wolf
I really liked Michael, he was a good dude..um, I mean vampire. Who and what I didn't like was Sarah. She was like Debbie Downer for me. I get she had a rough childhood, but damn woman...let go. After her and Michael "bump" into each other in Aruba, their both there for their friends wedding and unbeknownst to them, their friends are marrying each other. The start was good, even with Sarah still being a major downer, but once she found out that Michael was a vamp...she freaked out like a nut. That I just couldn't read, you're mad...I get it, but to have a full blown temper tantrum. Uh, no! Hot scenes, check. Hot dude, check. Crazy chick with the constant I'm never going to be happy attitude, uncheck.

The Beckoning of Beguiling Things by Calinda B.
I don't know what I read to tell you the truth as there was a lot going on in this story. Witches, warlocks, sexxy male dancers, family secrets and so much more. Maybe it was too much...it was like information overload. This chick Melissa wasn't as bad as the first one, but she was another one who didn't seem to want to move on beyond the past. Set in Las Vegas on a girls trip, Melissa is with her sisters and her best friend. It seems she's the center of something big and everyone knows it, of course but her. Eh, I like it enough, but I was pretty much lost reading this one.

Loving Ms. Wrong by C.J. Ellisson
I loved this story. I thought Marcus and Katrina were so cute and sexxy together. And this ladies is Tony's best friend Marcus from Ms. Ellisson's Vanilla on Top stories. I was really excited to see him get a story as he intrigued me when I was reading Tony & Heather's books. Well, well...job well done C.J. Throw these two together on a stormy rainy night and get them in one room and the sparks are flying and those are hot sparks btw. Good story and you got to know more about both characters way before the sexxy times happened...something I appreciate. I hope to see more of Katrina and Marcus.

A is for....by By Lila Dubois
My feelings on BDSM books have gone down, but there have been some good apples in the barrel and this is one of those apples. Anna and Master Jensen had a good D/s relationship. Anna who has played with Master Jensen before is a little thrown off key when the exclusive club they join throws a new game their was. Everyone must play the game even if you are with someone. Being that Anna & Jensen aren't a couple, she may end up being picked to be with another Dom. Let's just say she isn't to happy about that. But Jensen has a plan of his own to keep Anna out of anyone else's hands and it works. From there, it was hot like fire as they go through the letter A...sexually. Jensen was believable as a Dom and Anna was believable as a submissive..a willing one. Ya'll know I dislike brats.

2 out of 4 ain't bad, this is a good anthology to pick up. There's something here for every reader...I think that's a good thing.

EXCERPT FROM BODYGUARD BY JENNIFER ASHLEY

Elizabeth turned her head to find herself nose-to-nose with Ronan. “I used to be a very bad judge of character, is all.” Elizabeth slid her hand to Ronan’s neck, playing with the ends of his very short hair. She liked how it felt, prickly but soft, like Olaf’s fur. Under that was his Collar, warm metal fused to his neck. “But I’ve become much better at it,” she said softly.

“And I’m one of the good ones?”

For answer, Elizabeth leaned in and kissed him.

It started as a small kiss, a thank-you kiss, but Ronan’s big hand came around her neck, and he slanted his mouth over hers. His answering kiss was strong, warm, responsive.

Elizabeth parted her lips, her body tightening as his tongue swept into her mouth. His strength took her breath away, but he gentled it for her, holding back. Holding back a lot. The wildness in him, tempered for her, excited her.

He kissed slowly, firmly, his lips smooth. Elizabeth let her fingers slide down his back, finding muscles so solid they didn’t give under her fingers. His hand on her neck never moved, as though he held her up, as though she’d never fall as long as he was with her.

Elizabeth moved closer. She kissed him hungrily, needing to know he’d hold her up forever.

On her lap, Olaf stirred and emitted a little growl.

Ronan eased from the kiss but didn’t release her. He held her, their faces almost touching, his eyes so dark. A spark winked deep within them.

I can take care of myself. This was Elizabeth’s constant mantra. But wouldn’t it be wonderful to surrender to strength such as Ronan had, to know she would be safe—for always?

Review: Beauty and the Earl by Jess Michaels

Source: Provided by Author
Format: eBook (Mobi)
Published: April 15, 2014
Author: Jess Michaels
Samhain Publishing
Series: The Pleasure Wars #3
Blurb
Sex: R - Strong Sexual Content
Genre: Erotic Historical Romance

1/2

This really was a good historical romance story. I was completely taken with both Liam and Violet...especially Violet though. You could feel her inner struggles as she fought her ever growing feelings for Liam and doing what she was paid to do, which was spy on Liam for his sister.

Beauty and the Earl is the third book in Jess Michael's Pleasure Wars series, but I didn't feel lost with the story line here. So I'm guessing that you can read the series out of order, BUT if you want to know more about Liam & his sister's falling out, then it would be best to read book one.

To give you a taste without giving too much away. Violet, a well known courtesan is hired by Liam's sister Ava to spy on him...to see how he is doing. She fears the worst for her brother and is concerned about his welfare, but as I've stated earlier because they are now enstranged, she must use other methods to find out about him. In comes Violet who takes the job because she has plans to leave the courtesan life behind and Ava and her husband just offered her a nest egg to do just that.

It should have been easy, I mean this is what she was hired to do...she's a professional. So why is it so hard to NOT fall for Lord Windbury, The man is a brooding mess, drowning his own sorrows. While most have written him off or feel some sort of pity for him. What Violet sees is a man who needs healing on the inside and out. Oh, and the longer she stays with Liam, the more she starts to fall in love with him. How can this be good for a well versed courtesan?

I liked that Violet was this sexually aware woman, especially back in those times. Plus she was cheeky, but not overly so. It brought Liam out of his shell and he was more and more comfortable around her. She simply knew who she was and accepted her position in life, there was no brow-beating and the "woe is me" syndrome. Liam was a little harder to like, his constant brooding over his lost was a tad melodramatic, but it fit for this story.

Take a bit of Beauty and the Beast and mix it with Historical Romance and you have Jess Michael's Beauty and the Earl. This story is a bit more spicier than that though...thank goodness ;)

A well written and put together tale. All and all, I loved everything about this one.

Laura Kaye's EAST OF ECSTASY Release Day Launch

Happy Tuesday!...well, maybe happy. But at least there is a new release out...You all know L. Kaye's Heart of Anemoi series, righ? well, the latest is out.

East of Ecstasy

By Laura Kaye

You guys! I can’t believe release day for East of Ecstasy is finally here! This is the final book in my Hearts of the Anemoi series, which includes: North of Need, West of Want, and South of Surrender. The Anemoi were wind gods the Greek associated with controlling the wind, weather, and seasons. In East of Ecstasy, hero Devlin Eston is the heir to the East Wind which has long been associated with unluckiness, misfortune, and, thanks to Devlin’s father, even evil. Devlin himself has been the victim of father’s evil, and thereby finds himself an outcast among his own divine family. In this scene, heroine Annalise Fallston—who gets visions that she’s forced to paint in order to quiet them in her mind—sees Devlin for the first time. Here’s what she says:

Forcing the chaos in her mind away, Anna dipped her brush into the gray and stepped to the canvas. Motion captured her attention from the corner of her eye.

The Dark Man, the subject of her recent paintings, stood in the doorway and leaned against the jamb.

Anna jumped and her pulse raced, but this time, anger flooded in instead of fear. “I will deal with you on my own damn terms,” she said, taking a perverse amount of pleasure from putting a figment of her imagination in its place. Because that’s all he was.

He didn’t move or speak. Not that he could, since, you know. Figment.Of.Imagination.

Anna rolled her eyes, done with being scared and so pissed to have to do this again that she was nearly out of her mind. “I’m doing your damn painting already. So just leave me alone.” She cut her gaze back to the expanse of white, but the desire to see if his image would still be there if she looked again drove her to distraction.

Finally, she gave in and…he was still there.

Completely still.Blatantly scowling.Totally unfathomable.

Was this a vision? Another image she’d have to paint?

Her heart tripped into a sprint, and she couldn’t look away from him. Like the compulsion that forced her to paint these images, Anna couldn’t help but return his stare and memorize his masculine features. The sharp angles of his face, the harsh set of his mouth, the dark shadows around his even darker eyes.Black eyes. Blades of black hair hung low over his forehead and just touched the hooded shirt he wore under his short, scuffed leather jacket. He’d crossed his arms over his chest, and the position caused his biceps to bunch up under the worn leather. In fact, everything about him appeared worn—the coat, the threadbare jeans, the scuffed boots. None of it struck her as the kind of shabby chic you could buy in some upscale store for a small fortune, either. The whole effect was rough. Dangerous.Deprived.

Deprived? What a strange way of describing him. But as Anna’s gaze swept over him again, the thought stuck. For his height, he seemed thin, with his lean hips, clad in old black jeans, a trim waist, and pronounced cheekbones. Her fingers twitched around the nearly forgotten paintbrush. What would it feel like to cup that harsh face in her hand?

Anna gasped and tore her gaze away. She had to blink to pull herself out of the haze of thoughts. Frustration surged through her and tensed the muscles of her shoulders and neck. She didn’t want to be working on another of these paintings as it was, so the last thing she needed was to lose a bunch of time daydreaming. Or would it be daynightmaring?

As she stared at the blank canvas, the image of the shackled man behind the prison bars filled her mind’s eye.

Definitely the latter.

Curiosity pulled her eyes to the left again. The doorway was empty

So, did you have a favorite line from the excerpt? Thanks for reading!

About EAST OF ECSTASY:

The final chapter in the award-winning and bestselling Hearts of the Anemoi series…

She’s the only one who can give him the strength to save them all…

Annalise Fallston made peace with postponing her big-city dreams to care for her ill father, but lately she's been filled with a restlessness not even her beloved painting dispels. Worse, the colors don't speak to her as they always have, and all her efforts produce dark, foreboding images of a dangerous man and a terrifying future.

Devlin Eston, black-souled son of the evil Anemoi Eurus, is the only one who can thwart his father's plan to overthrow the Supreme God of Wind and Storms. But first, Dev must master the unstable powers he's been given. Distrusted and shunned by his own divine family, he never expected to find kindness and passion in the arms of a mortal.

But Devlin's love puts Annalise in the path of a catastrophic storm, and in the final Armageddon showdown between the Anemoi and Eurus, sacrifices will be made, hearts broken, and lives changed forever...or lost.
