Our Review

Deeper is the story of Avianna Linton who is a school teacher in New York City. Hiding from her old life and starting a new one in NYC, she befriends a fellow teacher who just happens to be friends with Noah Adams, who is known as the King of New York.

This was a enjoyable story and the mystery/suspense element of it was good.

Deeper definitely had its perks but it also had its downfalls. And we don’t mean like BOOOOOOOOOOOM big ol downfalls, but it had its moments (quite a bit of them actually) where we just couldn’t go on. But we had to get through it. And we will say that the suspense and mystery is what kept us rolling. The mysterious and oh so dangerous Noah Adams was every bit of bad boy that you could want in a hero.

The relationship between Avi and Noah was a bit of a rollercoaster which was one of the reasons Avi isn’t one of our favorite heroines. She’s so back and forth with her feelings and emotions, it was hard to keep up with her and how she was feeling. She was gullible but quick to judge and constantly on the hot and cold end of lust and passion.

Despite the fact that the heroine wanted us to give her a good ol’ girl talk to get her shit together we pushed on. There was still something about Deeper that kept us invested. Noah and his men, they were well worth the read and we did enjoy the dangerous, gansta part of all of them. The hows and whys that bring Noah and Avi together is quite page turning. We also enjoyed the relationship that Avi developed with Sophia, a fellow school teacher who brings her into Noah’s world.

Deeper has a good intriguing mystery and interesting characters. The world building was nice and we understood where the author wanted to go with this story but the heroine was difficult and the chemistry between our couple was cold and a little off putting at times. We recommend Deeper if you like new adult reads with extremely angsty characters.

My Review

**don't read this if you don't want to see some spoilers and a pissed off/kinda of ranty review**

I just didn't like Eboni. She was a **tch, selfish, whoa is me character who couldn't let go of the past. She was also a chump who refused to see that she was part of the problem is this so called relationship and kept putting it all of Gunnar. I hated her though 90% of this book and couldn't garner any sympathy for her butt at the last 10%. I cannot stand female characters who cannot see past their own issues...Yeah, the man left but you didn't stop him and you didn't fight for him to stay. She holds a gotdamn grudge for all these years and when the man does come back to help his sick adoptive mother, she acts like a spoiled childish ass child who did't get a chance to play in the sandbox. Yelling and screaming at the man and trying to undermine him because her ass was still mad. I wanted her to grow up! The man tells all his secrets and the reasons as to why he left and this heffa holds onto a secret until the end and then wants him to forgive her so easily when her ass kept a grudge for the majority of the story...uh hell no.

The only saving grace in this book was Gunnar. He was a gentlemen who bent over backwards to get this Chick not to be mad at him anymore. I loved his character and I did like the fact that he and his brothers were adopted and raised by a black woman, that is what initially drew me to this book. All three brothers are in different sports as well. Gunner is a MMA fighter who left their home town in Virginia to pursue his dream and this ho didn't want to go with him because she felt obligated to take care of her aunt who raised her after her mother died. I get and understand that but she never told Gunnar about her situation, she just expected him to know I guess.

There was also more to Gunnar than him being a fighter, Elizabeth raised her sons in such a awesome manner and they were respectful but they also knew the ins and outs of her businesses. Like for instance in this story Gunnar who like I said is in the MMA but he also knows how to do hair. He made is own hair products as well...see? winner and he chased after a bitter chump.

The way Eboni acted in this story, I for the life of me couldn't understand why Gunnar fought so hard to get back with her. For most of the book, she was rude and I didn't get the damn chemistry between them. I just didn't. I really wanted him to tell her to kiss his ass throughout most of the story, but I know he would not have done that because of the way his mother raised him.

The other saving grace in this book was Gunnar's mother Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth is what they called her. She was funny and the typical mother who was all up in her kids business but my like of her went down a bit when I found out that she knew Eboni's secret too and didn't tell Gunnar. But he forgave her, but that is his mother so I can see him not staying mad at her. Pfft, at least Elizabeth realized her error and apologized to Gunnar.

So in the end, Gunnar gives up his title and moves back to Virginia to be with Eboni and work in his mom's salon. I wasn't happy with this HEA, no...I really didn't care about it because I could not stand Eboni's ass for the entirety of the book.

I like the set up of the series. Elizabeth has three businesses and from what I can gather each son will be involved with it in his own story. Gunnar with the salon, Gideon with the flower shop and Thane will have the other business which I can't think of right now. I don't know if I will go into the other stories at this moment. If any of the other chicks will be like Eboni then that will be a big ass NO.

I wanted to DNF this one so bad because every time Eboni gave Gunnar some contradicting ass excuse as to why she should still be mad at him, I wanted to put it down but I wanted to see if she would woman the fuck up and admit that she messed up too and you know what? she never really did. She had one moment of clarity towards the end when she cut off her hair but even after that, she wasn't much of a improvement. I mean even after Gunnar found out her damn secret, she wanted him to come after her. Why? Why couldn't she go after him? Make it up to him? UGH!!!!

This was my feelings during most of the read

Would I recommend The Look of Love? No, I can't in good conscious do that. But don't take my review as a dislike of this authors work, the writing was good and the story/series set up is done well too. I just couldn't get with this character and what I may dislike another reader would totally feel different about.

Race, Hate and What Happened In Charleston South Carolina

Saturday, June 20, 2015

Unless you live under a rock or don’t watch the news, there was a shooting this past Thursday at a historic black church, Emanuel AME Church in Charleston South Carolina. Nine innocent people lost their lives to hate, they welcomed a killer into their Sanctuary pretending to join prayer and that person murdered them. As I write this I am sad, I’m angry and I’m hurt but mostly I am sad.

As we go into the future, do we really want to continue to bring the past with us? Do we really want to live so divided in hate that we cannot just simply live in peace and harmony. That person walked into a church, the last place where you would think something like this could happen and took NINE lives. But we didn’t believe it when we saw what happened in Connecticut either.

Race relations in the country is failing, everyday we take several steps backwards on this subject. When bad things happen and race is involved, we want to ignore the obvious...that big ugly stain of our history. We want to delude ourselves into believing that we are in a post racial society and I tell you IMOP that we are not. Are things are as bad as they were from back in the day? No, they are not but trust, this act of terror proves that they are not getting any better. Because when we ignore, when we close our curtains, when we shut our eyes, when we teach our children that it is okay to hate something or someone because they are different than ourselves, then we are not solving the problem, we are part of it.

There is evil running around loose and it is turning us against each other in the worst possible way. How can we say that we are an advanced society when we can’t even get past the judging of people because they look different, they act different, they speak different, they pray different...they are different? How can we?

We must take a hard look in the mirror and acknowledge this problem, face that ugly truth and start the healing process, not just cover the wound but start the actual care of healing it. Start the process of change and I mean real change. Are we really going to let the lives of our ancestors who fought diligently so that we could have and be better suffer for naught? The violence that we do onto one another is disheartening, it makes me hurt for our future...for our children’s future. Things like this shooting have to stop, things like police brutality have to stop, things where we tear into one another without accountability must stop.

My prayers and condolences go out to the families of victims.

The church is accepting Donations, you can go HERE if would like too.

I can only hope that as this trial starts and as we get back to our daily lives that we seriously think about where our future takes us.

My Review

This is going to be a short review because I’ve already did a video for it. But sometimes, you know...words work too.

Glutton for Pleasure is a menage’ and also a interracial romance. Your main characters are Devi Malik who is Indian and also a chef. You also have Jace and Marcus Callahan who are Irish and of course twins, one be a lawyer and the other be an accountant. Regular Joe’s, now ya’ll know I love my regular Joes.

What’s going on here? Devi who is in a relationship and sexual drought is hooked up with Jace and Marcus by one of her sisters who just happens to know that these two share women. Devi is a bit hesitant at first, for various reason but then decide to go ahead and sleep with the brothers. What starts off as a one night threesome turns into a two week affair and then...as our romances go folks start catching feelings.

But the catch here is that Jace has had a plan from the beginning and that is to get Devi and his twin brother Marcus to go into this relationship and have a HEA. Can it work? well, of course I’m not going to tell. Watch the video  for more deets...maybe, lols.

The Viking Wants Forever by Koko Brown: #ReleaseBlitz

Thursday, June 18, 2015

Hi Guys! Welcome to our stop in KoKo Brown's release blitz. Now Ms. Brown is not new to me, I've read her work before and adored it but I have been waiting for this one like a poor man in the desert waiting for rainfall...too much? lols. Lawdt, I can't wait to read it. Anyhoo, in the meantime enjoy! There will be a #giveaway at the end of this post.

Book title: The Viking Wants Forever
Author: Koko Brown
Available: Amazon | BN

Blurb It Up

A Love Frozen In Time…
Reese Johnson yearns for a life other than the world of drudgery she’s settled for as the manager of a comic book store. What’s that they say? Be careful what you wish for? Well that’s a motto Reese should have tattooed across her forehead. Because Loki, the Norse god of mischief, has just the remedy for the boring life of this woman who denounces his existence.

His recipe for disaster?
Take a 30 year-old woman and send her back in time as a pawn for revenge. Couple her with Eirik Sigurdsson, a Viking Warlord, too arrogant and baggage-laden to be of any use for anything, but battle and bed. Mix thoroughly, folding in a heavy dose of pride, a tyrannical king, and a sympathetic goddess. Bake at high until a white-hot love is unleashed and then forever frozen in time.

NOTE: The Viking Wants Forever was previously published as Frozen in Time. The story has been expanded by 42,000 words.

Teasers Anyone?

“You are mine and I will never let you go.”

Stated with such conviction, his tone should have rubbed Reese the wrong way, instead she experienced an odd flutter in her stomach. Not liking this one way street, she countered, “Is that the Viking way of saying you love and cherish me?”

He ran his calloused hands over her forearms in a light caress, and Reese shuddered. “What a good warrior you are. How easily you turn the tables on your enemies. Have them question their defenses.”
Only a few words and the air around them became charged. The pendulum swing of emotions, she'd caged broke free. Sure, she warred with her common sense, any kind of romantic entanglement could cloud her judgment, ruin her chances of ever returning home, and still she hurtled down that path.

Heart pounding, Reese slid her hands into his hair. “What does a mighty warrior like you have to protect?” she asked softly, willing her voice into a calmness she didn’t feel.

With a defeated groan, Eirik stared up at her. “I keep underestimating you.”

“Me?” She widened her eyes with feigned innocence, and experienced a confidence she’d never felt in her life. “I’m a mere woman…a slave.”

“With a deadly arsenal at your disposal,” he whispered. “You belong to me, so it should not matter if you are willing to spread your legs for me or not, but it does.” His hand drifted down her spine, and Reese instantly excused his crudeness as desire shot through her. “I want more. I want—”
“You want everything,” she finished for him, her toes curling as he squeezed a butt cheek. “So like a Viking.”

Koko Brown is the pseudonym for a quintessential romance junkie who read over 200 Zebra Club novels in less than 30 days the summer before her senior year in high school. Bit by the writing bug at an early, she self-published and made a profit from a newspaper she distributed to her fourth grade classmates.  Unfortunately, the school principal didn't appreciate the competition and put her out of business after one best-selling issue.

Undaunted, Koko continued to write and read everything she could get her hands on.  She honed her writing skills as a staff writer with her college newspaper and writing obituaries for the local newspaper.
One day back in 2006, Koko came up with the idea for her first erotic manuscript and the rest they say is history. While not writing, Koko loves to travel and shop in thrift stores.

KoKo is gifting a $15 Amazon Gift card for readers who follow the Tour, so make sure you enter!

Idk, that except got me all excited, lols. Whew, some books might have to get pushed to the side on June 24th...

Movie Review: Chocolate City

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Director: Jean-Claude La Marre
Length: 1 hr 31 minutes
Stars: Robert Ri'chard | Vivica A. Fox | DeRay Davis | Michael Jai White

Life for a struggling college student changes in an instant when he meets the owner of a male strip club who convinces him to give amateur night a whirl.

Honestly this was probably one of the worst movies I watched (as far as story lines go) in a very long time. It was a boring, honest to goodness snooze fest. And you know what is sad about that? my sister & I actually planned a whole girls trip to the theater to see this...thank good gravy we didn't pay. Well, I paid my cable bill and was able to catch it on BET. I guess because of the limited release of Chocolate City and the upcoming Magic Mike 2 movie, this one got pushed to the side. We all know how Hollywood do, especially when a full cast of color is involved. But I can't even be mad at them for this one, it was not worth movie money.

The "About" info above pretty much gives you a idea of what is going in in Chocolate City, just add in a struggling single mom (Vivica Fox), a girlfriend who didn't know and a brother who turns manger (DeRay Davis). I can't say that I was expecting much from a movie that is centered around strippers BUT if you are going to attempt to give me a story..make it worth it is all I'm saying. So what I am going to do is give ya'll a peek at the Facebook convo I had with my family about this one...

Tea Time with Sharonda BrazenBabe's Family

Didn't enjoy the movie!!!!😩😩😖😩story line was slow & lame but the bodies where most definitely on point! I give it 🌟🌟's! Good morning

So yes, I agree with my aunt. The movie itself was all kinds of corny and predictable but dem bodies! Lawdt, praise to all of the angels in heaven...they were on point!

Anyhoo's, if you catch it on your cable provider...would I suggest it? idk. What I didn't like, the next person would definitely enjoy sooo....

But dem bodies was well worth me caressing my TV anytime a dancer came on.

Keep it Moving
