A couple of days ago was a TRUE ICONs birthday (don't know why ereone is a icon now...it's kinda annoying, lols). Anyhoos, Grace Jones music career spans decades but she was also a formidable model and actress...a triple threat indeed. I've always been a huge fan and continue to be one until the day I leave this earth.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you MS. GRACE JONNNEEESSSSS.......

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz (#SelfHelp, #Spirituality)

Author: Don Miguel Ruiz
Source: Self Purchased
Format: Paperback
Series: NA
Published: November 7, 1997
Genre: Spirituality, Psychology, Self Help
Available: BN | Amazon | +Goodreads

As someone who is attempting (and at times not succeeding) to go through personal change, I found The Four Agreements to be very helpful and it's explanation in establishing four simple rules to your life and gaining personal freedom. Mr. Ruiz has four things he feels we all should have and they are:
  • Be Impeccable With Your Word
  • Don't Take Anything Personally (a struggle for myself)
  • Don't Make Assumptions
  • Always Do Your Best
With these four Agreements, this author believes we have the power to to change our lives. Mr. Ruiz sees this world as a dream state (think the Matrix). And in this dream, we are being domesticated with ever day beliefs that can at times weigh us down heavily. I can attest to this as I do believe that we can AND do get stuck on things such as how we are viewed by others in society. As in if we don't have certain things or behave (or don't) a certain way then there is something inherently wrong with us.

We as humans have become so entrenched in looking for the perfect "this" and "that" that we forget to be just "US". We forget to live our lives as it is supposed to lived...simply and happy.

The Four Agreements rooted in a ancient Toltec wisdom gives you healthy advise in training your mind to live your own life for "You" and not for others even when it comes to your friends and family, you must live for you. Because at the end of the day, at the end of it all...you are responsible for yourself and your actions.  I mean, yes...you may have your family and your friends BUT at the end of this day...in this current dream state, you truly are only responsible for your life. This is another thing I can attest to because for me,  I tend to get so caught up in worrying about taking care of others and over analyzing stuff, I forget to take care of myself, take care of my feelings, my soul. I've come to realize that that "self care" is a truly wonderful feeling but I've have to get into the habit of training my mind to KNOW that self care is essential, it is a must to keeping my soul truly happy.

Mr. Ruiz's thought is this, there is no need to suffer. You only suffer if you choose to suffer and I choose to no longer self suffer.

I really enjoyed this read and there are some really helpful words/steps offered here that I feel that I can easily apply towards my goals in becoming a better "me". There are truly some "ah ha!" moments in The Four Agreements. The wording is simple, there are no long drawn out paragraphs to make you feel like "what the hell did I just read here?"  lols. I like that the author kept it simple and straight to the point.

Great book!
The Toltec were known throughout southern Mexico as women and men of Knowledge.

Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer #1 (#Comics)

Author: David Crownson
Illustrator: Courtland Ellison
Source: Self Purchased
Format: PDF Download
Published: ?
Series: Yes
Genre: Comics, Fantasy, Horror
Available: Peep Game Comix

The first installment in the comic Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer starts off pretty dang on exciting. There is no slow build up and this author holds nothing back. There are only 32 pages in this comic book and I don't want to give too much away. In my attempt to be as brief as possible here, I'll do bullet points.
  • There is Vampire horde and some are posing as slave catchers.
  • The slaves in this comic are fighting and shooting back.
  • Harriet Tubman reminded me a lot of Michonne from TWD (there is a Katana!).
  • The illustrator did a bomb ass job. Amazing detail to the characters.
  • There is lots of action and some humor too.
  • Harriet Tubman is still helping slaves to freedom but she is also "freeing" these demons!
A good start to a what seems to be a pretty kick ass comic...I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.

Tea and Tomahawks by Dahlia DeWinters (#Fantasy, #TimeTravel)

Author: Dahlia DeWinters
Source: Self Purchased
Format: Mobi (Kindle)
Published: October 29, 2015
Series:NA
Genre: Time Travel, Romance
Available: Amazon | +Goodreads

Another one I have mixed feelings about.

I mean I liked it...really enjoyed the mash of contemporary , historical, paranormal and time travel themes going on in Tea and Tomahawks but ugh, this heroine...just ugh.

And trust me, I get Annie was an abused woman (which I don't condone at all). But....this chick knew she was in a bad situation the day after her marriage began, had IMO the perfect way to get out of it (by way of her Grandmother) and just didn't...ugh. I truly wanted to bop her upside the head a couple of times while reading. Yes, she was a shy introverted person but to constantly take shit from a person she knew was a POS was just annoying to read.

The ending however, was quite surprising and I was pleasantly shocked by it...totally wasn't expecting it so kudos to the author for that. I wished I could have enjoyed the in betweens a bit more but thank goodness for the Annie's Grandmother, that feisty little woman was the bomb.com and a wonderfully awesome side character.

There was a tinge of a romance going on but really this story is about Annie traveling back in time, the past meshing with her present to drop some type of message on her head really. Which was fine and which explains the ending and which...you know what? good book...try it lols.
