GoodReads Blurb:
A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and flirty debut novel.

Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist.

On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend...

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they can't stop thinking about the other...

They're just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century--or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want...

Review:
Meet while trapped in an elevator and she says 'yes' to his wild idea for her to be his fake wedding date.  Sounded all sorts of light and fun in this interracial romance so I was up for trying a new to me author in Jasmine Guillory.

The Wedding Date started out cute and funny when it opens on Drew and Alexa's meeting in a San Francisco hotel.  He's there for the dreaded wedding of his ex and his best friend (no, it wasn't a cheating thing- Drew was actually the bad guy who called it off with Molly) and Alexa is there to meet her sister on a visit from New York to do a deposition.

If this had only been a light romantic comedy of sorts, it would have been okay and nothing to write home about.  It had some moments that made me smile and laugh, sigh, and squirm, tap my fingers with irritation, and then go all swoony like a good romance will do.  Alexa and Drew hit it off and are suitably very attracted and do something about that, but they do have their miscommunication and assumption issues that try to sabotage the long-distance relationship they decide to give a try (he’s a pediatric surgeon from LA and she’s the Oakland Mayor’s Chief of Staff).

I had the urge to lock them in a closet and not let them out until they hashed it out.  I spent the middle of the book in a slow grind at times as they did lots of mental monologuing about what they thought the other one was thinking.  Sometimes it made sense for the situation and sometimes I felt it was just there to add drama.  Truthfully, I could have used more convincing why this pair was even together the way Drew was so adamant in the beginning that he didn't do relationships and came over a bit cocky about his appeal.  But, the end picked back up with the fun of the early part.  I didn't hate them and I thought they brought out the best in each other.  And hey, they got up to lots of sexy times together.

But, here's what really pulled me in.  It wasn't just a fluffy romcom.  I loved the inclusion of the relationship between Alexa and her older successful sister, Olivia, who seems to always make Alexa feel inadequate.  It is this that had Alexa so willing to take a chance on the mild mess that is Drew.  I loved seeing these two trying to work out their sisterly troubles.  And, I also enjoyed Alexa's friendship with fashion designer, Maddie, and Alexa's Mayor Office co-worker, Theo (I loved that Alexa worked in a big city Mayor's office- rather fascinating).  These other connections added a nice layer to this story with their banter and also support.  Might I say, a more appealing layer.

For those looking for romances featuring people of color, this definitely would qualify, but if you are looking for racial identity to be a strong feature of the piece, this would be just moderately so.  It was good to see a heroine successful in her career and a hero not threatened by that.  Alexa is a person I could like and root for.

All in all, I liked it.  I thought the pacing was off in the middle and there was more miscommunication drama than I liked, but in the end, I liked these two together, the banter and humor, and really liked the heroine.  Would be fun to see some of the side characters get a story.

My thanks to Berkeley Romance for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jason's Awakening by Remi Marie (A BBr Spotlight)

Thursday, January 25, 2018

Published: December 15, 2017
Available: BN | Amazon | Goodreads

Book Deets
Jason Barton isn’t your typical hero. In fact, his small frame, high IQ, and deep compassion for others keeps him in the friend’s zone most of the time. But despite his anti-hero traits, he still has a one-track mind when it comes to women – mainly the one who has been by his side for the last five years.

Trini Davos is the polar opposite of Jason. She’s a brave, Goth geek, who never met a problem she couldn’t solve. But a brazen attack by a group of rouge werewolves changes everything for her and her long-time friend. They narrowly escape death only to discover that wild beasts are the least of their troubles. An unlikely romance may prove to be the biggest challenge of all for them.

Jason’s Awakening offers a fresh take on the paranormal romance genre. Filled with non-stop action, steamy romance, and twists no one will see coming, this book will keep the reader hooked from start to finish

About the Author
Remy Marie is a paranormal and urban fantasy author who loves to write about charming heroes and brave heroines. Metaphysical Healing #1: Smudging

Friday, January 5, 2018

I started my metaphysical learning and healing the later part of 2017. I realized that I needed a different spiritual outlet outside church every Sunday. I'm not here to bash the Lord and I still believe in a higher power But we all have our ways of worshiping and I decided to take a different approach with my spiritual journey. Some of my family members are doing complete head spins, lols but that is a post for another day.

Smudging was one of the first things I started doing when I started this journey. Smudging is the practice of clearing negative energies from yourself and your space through smoke. Its also used to purify and/or bless people and places. Many cultures smudge but Smudging has been traditionally used by First Nations and Native Americans.

There are also different items to use when smudging but sage sticks seem to be the most popular. Below are some of the sage tools that I use. Figured I pose them with some of my books for a pretty setup.

White Sage dyed with Dragons Blood Resin, I just purchased this one this past weekend and thought it was so cool. Palo Santo (stick and elephant). As you can see, I've already used the elephant. Standard White Sage.

You don't always have to use sage or palo santo. These two options are the most powerful though. Some people use candles or the little incense cones. You can also find some sage sticks that have lavender, wildflowers and the sort combined. From what I gather, when combining these items with white sage, it cuts the smell. Sage has a strong scent so usually when I smudge, I do so in my unmentionables lols.

I highly suggest cracking a window while and after smudging yourself and your space. You can also burn a sweet smelling incense afterwards. Oh, also be sure to have your smudging bowl and some folks like to use a smudging feather to fan the smoke.

I provided a couple of text links should you be interested in learning about Smudging along with two videos that show the process in action. The Sage Goddess - Smudging 101 | Mindful Daily - Smudging 101.

If you smudge and don't feel like you've really "cleared" anything, then I have to say that you must believe that it is working for you. I think and I can surely attest that when most first go into metaphysical practice, you may have the sense of not truly "believing in" any of it. I will tell you that most teachings and healers will tell you it all about your "intent" or "intentions". Simply, if you don't think this process is working for you, then it won't. It's truly that simple. I feel so much better after I smudge and I try to smudge at least once a week. I fell off a little but I'm definitely being more proactive this new year.

Until the next post..Lata Days!

Happy New Year! (Whats Up and Whats New)

Monday, January 1, 2018

Image result for Happy 2018

Hey Ya'll! It's a new year...yay! I hope you and your family had a beautiful Holiday.

So, What will be new at Brazen Babe Reviews? I can't really tell you because honestly, I'm just going to go with the flow. I will definitely post more but I what I'm not going to do to myself is make myself crazy with trying to keep up with the Blogdarshian's, lols.

I will however, try to post at least two book reviews/spotlights a week. Again, I'm not making any promises and will attempt to do at least one of the two a week. I mainly want to feature authors of color BUT since no one ever wants to contact this little ol blog to feature their work no matter how many times, I put out a blast on social media...(with the exception of a few...). I will just take it upon myself feature whom I want by simply visiting book sites or if I get something sparkly in a newsletter I follow and promote what I feel like. Because what we not going to do is go into 2018 with folks screaming about there are no blogs that feature books of color or authors of color and then when THOSE blogs happen to put out a PSA, all WE hear is damn crickets. That is one of the many things we are getting rid of in 2018 *in my Jackie Aina voice*.

You can however, always feel free to hit us up via our contact page should you want us to feature your book or product.

If you so happen to follow me on Instagram, then you know I'm into metaphysical healing, tarot cards/readings and the sort. So I'll be featuring some of my Tarot Decks that I purchased and will be purchasing. I'll also show some of the cards drawn when I do my readings. I'm still in the practice faze...so you know....lols. I'm a affiliate of the Sage Goddess website, so if you are into crystals, incense, smudging or anything of the sort...my affiliate link is at the top of the side bar. I will also feature crystals and other items that I purchase as well.

I will still do movie/tv show recaps and/or reviews as well. Oh! and I'm into planners and all that jazz so I want to showcase that too.

My goodness, I'm excited about this Year!

I really want to make this an everything type of a blog without creating a new blog, cause who has that kinda of time? not this woman. So there will be some self care posts and some what's going on in our lives posts. We won't get to personal though 😃.

Don't forget that we have a Soundcloud channel and a Youtube channel (direct links at the top of the page). Some of these reviews and features will be via one or the other. I might also give the blog a little bit of the update, idk change the color and the set up. I'll have to reach out to my favorite web designer Ana for that one.

Finally, I just want to blog the way I want to blog. When I started this, it was a hobby...a release but somewhere down the line, it all got muddled in trying to fit into the blogging world. Trying to appease authors and other bloggers. People started making demands or suggesting while being passive aggressive as hell on what you should post on YOUR blog. Cussing bloggers out because they didn't like a post, stalking people and doxxing them. All over a damn product, smh. It just stopped being fun. I mean do ya'll realize how many book bloggers have stepped away from the crazy? People have families and when you start to threaten that...man listen. Ain't nobody got time for all that.

I say all this to say this, THIS blog...Brazen Babe Reviews will respectively post what we want when we want how the heck we want. The disrespect and unprofessional-ism will not be tolerated (my block hand is strong son). Because... as I said, we ARE leaving that s**t in 2017. Take it away from this space. Go be passive aggressive and angry elsewhere. This is safe blogging space.

Until the next post. Lata Days!

**If you followed me on Twitter and don't see my @handle any longer, I deleted it. I'm only on Instagram and Snaphat really. Facebook is a big ol question mark....

The blogs Twitter is still intact.
