Yes Vanessa can see futures but the way she predicts said futures isn’t the best, sometimes it's down right terrible. She doesn’t want this gift, never did. Unlucky in her predictions and unlucky in love, she finally decides to take her Aunt Evelyn’s (who is clairvoyant as well) offer of restarting her training in Paris.

In Paris, Vanessa learns not just about herself and her gift. She learns things about her Aunt even her own mother and gang of aunties didn’t know. She also might have a chance at finding the love mate she has always wanted.

I am really beginning to love Roselle Lim’s writing. She has such a way of weaving a story plot together. Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop is full of magic, family (drama), love and omgee food! This story was all full of color and wonderful smells. It reads more as women’s fiction than romance and for me that was perfectly fine because our protagonist is on a journey to find herself and why her gift reacts the way it does… but finding romance along the way is a good thing too.

The strong point of this story for me was the strong family dynamics. Even as Vanessa struggled with her gift and how it affected her life, her family was always there to help her as much as they could...even when she gave those terrible predictions. I enjoy reading about mother-daughter relationships but the way this author told the story between Vanessa and her aunt was so emotionally raw and sweet, I would love to see more stories of between aunties and their nieces.

Anyolways, if you’re looking for stories that are full of magic, love and family definitely add Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop to your reading list.
